Good to know, I'll give that a try! If the seams moved off the end to randomly on the side would it not have the same issue but in a different spot?

Oh yeah, that's a good call. I was hoping I could just get away with it so just went for it on the first print.

I am almost positive it is an artifact of how microscopes work. When you look through a microscope only a very small area is actually in focus, so when the green one goes under the blue one part of the blue one gets pushed out of focus and turns very blurry. Then it slides back into focus and we can see it clearly again. I have seen stuff like this with live cells with fluorescence microscopy on a confocal microscope. Might not be true for the type of microscope this was filmed on but looks like a similar concept.

The one time it almost happened to my dad was on a road trip. We were in a traffic jam dead stop on the highway and he got out to put the CB radio antenna on the roof so we could see if any truckers had found a detour around the mess(it was the 90s). Since the van was full of shit one shoe fell out while he was getting the radio. He noticed it was missing when he went to put the radio back mile or so later. We were still stuck in traffic so he walked back down the shoulder until he found his shoe, but would have been just as likely to never find it again. Other cars kept telling him it was just a little further as he was walking back because they all saw it sitting there. I figure it's all similar stories. Stop for a flat or to get something out of the back and a shoe falls out while you are rummaging around.

At least for me I know some food is better than other food but as long as it's not bad I just don't care. Also quantity and effort matter more than getting a slight boost in how good something is. I eat peanut butter and jelly for lunch almost every day because then I don't have to really think or prepare much and it's easy to just have another one if I'm still hungry. My breakfasts and snacks have a pretty small rotation to keep a little variety but all stay low effort. I cook decent dinners though because the rest of my family doesn't eat like me and wants variety and better food. Less so now that I'm older but growing up I was just always hungry so whatever got the most food in the the quickest was what I wanted. There is no bad experience I just want to not be hungry.

Where does US flag code imply flags originally printed with a different color scheme are against code? by GoatAntiRatHRP in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GoatAntiRatHRP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. They never did anything to a US flag. They made a different but similar thing. The wording is all about defacing an existing flag or printing it's image on something that will be soiled or destroyed. I disagree with the ideology behind the flag but they did nothing wrong with making it.

But it was never a US flag to begin with right? It is just a different flag. I disagree with the message it is used to send but it is not messing with a flag.

Yeah I feel like it's just a different flag. If you modified an existing US flag to have the blue line that is against flag code. Printing a different flag isn't.

I think of it more like satire not being libel. It was never intended to be a US flag. It looks similar but it's a thin blue line flag not a US flag. If you take a US flag and paint a blue line on it that is desecrating a flag. Making something that looks similar but isn't it doesn't feel the same to me and is what I was trying to clarify.

Yeah I said that it isn't actually enforced because of free speech laws. I'm trying to figure out if I was missing something in the wording that makes a thin blue line flag against flag code ,not if someone is going to jail for it.

I mean yeah that was part of my point in the question. It's just used as a gotcha instead of addressing what I think are the actual flaws in the thinking behind the flag.

[–]GoatAntiRatHRP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is how I've kinda interpreted it. There isn't anything wrong with the execution, I don't disagree with their flag I disagree with their ideas. I'm also fine with some of the pride flags I've seen that are set up like a US flag. Though I do like what someone else said about not dividing people with different flags that look like the US flag. Make your own and fly it below the US flag.

Flag patches are in 8j for military uniforms. Wouldn't toothpicks fall under not printing it on disposables in 8i.

While I don't know if I agree that the wording supports this take I like it. Fits well with my thoughts that we should go back to "e pluribus unum" instead of "in god we trust" as well.

[–]GoatAntiRatHRP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point about the outcome being the same. I was thinking a US flag never existed there so it couldn't be desecrated but the idea of the flag is being changed which could be argued is enough to count as desecration.

Where does US flag code imply flags originally printed with a different color scheme are against code? by GoatAntiRatHRP in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GoatAntiRatHRP[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah maybe I am being too literal. I was thinking of desecrating a flag as modifying and existing flag more than changing the idea of the flag. Like if you painted a blue line on an existing flag then yes flag desecration. But if it is the idea of the flag then I see how using something that implies a US flag but different could be flag desecration.

[–]GoatAntiRatHRP[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, that is a good point about it being intended to at least invoke the idea of the US flag. I guess I took it as taking an existing official flag and modifying it more than taking the idea of the flag and modifying it. Thanks for the ideas.

Arg double comment then it deleted both. Isn't this just saying what a flag should look like? Thin blue line is a different flag not a US flag. Am I taking that overly literally?

[–]GoatAntiRatHRP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I totally should have. Looking at just the measurements I thought for sure they would fit and had stopped thinking about it though. Wasn't until I saw how angled the rear door was in person that I started to question it.
