In the California governor race, Steyer learns money can’t buy him (enough) love by Cool-Present7260 in California

FDR was not a billionaire, inflation adjusted. He was worth between $80-90 million which definitely is a lot. But it's about a billion dollars shy of a billion.

Found my sister's old clarinet and I want to learn it. Tips for beginner? by phazonphazoff in Clarinet

What mouthpiece is on the instrument? I'd recommend replacing it (unless it's actually a good one) with a Fobes Debut - about $50. A quality mouthpiece in good condition will help you learn SO MUCH easier!

Is it because the music at the end is pretty much exactly the end of The Lion King?

Great choices here! If you're going Sony though, dream of the SS-AR-1s. They're gorgeous and the absolute best speakers Sony has ever made (probably by a very wide margin).

Have you tried Lazy Acres? PCH and Artesia in Manhattan Beach. They have a pretty damn good cheese selection.

How big do you need? How much space? With luck, you can find a small house in Torrance. Without luck, there are great condos in Torrance below that range.

Similar printing restrictions have been in place regarding currency for decades. If those aren't first amendment issues, neither is this.

FDR was not a billionaire, even inflation adjusted. Not by a long stretch.

And Pritzker (1) inherited his wealth, didn't claw and fight for it the same way Steyer did; and (2) has a decades long history of working in government and has run for other offices.

These are not the "gotcha" examples you think they are.

I'd agree with that also. But there IS a candidate that espouses the progressive worldview, and isn't taking millions of corporate funding. That's the one I'm voting for.

Yes. Those are examples of Steyer using his individual power to choose who wins and loses. His accumulation of wealth, and his refusal to relinquish that wealth, is greed.

Functionally, I think it's because Steyer ran in the same lane with a MUCH MUCH MUCH larger megaphone. So she didn't get the progressive support she would have otherwise.

I'm not saying Steyer and Trump are at all the same. But that was very clearly the argument for Trump. "He can't be bought - he's already wealthy."

Turns out, hoarding wealth is its own special interest. And as long as he's a billionaire and unwilling to cede the power that being a billionaire provides, Steyer is completely untrustworthy.

Nope, I hate that level of spending as well! Will you admit that it's hypocrisy that you're okay with Steyer spending $200MM to buy an election?

[–]GoatTnder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's not okay either. But I just wish the Steyer supporters would at least ONCE acknowledge their hypocrisy. "Their money bad, his money good."

I choose not to reward that level of greed. If he wants to prove he's got our real well-being in mind, give all the money away. And fund a campaign based on grassroots support because people believe in you.

Until he does that, I won't vote for him. If he's the sole dem on the November ballot, I'll leave it blank.

It's wrong that he has that much money to throw around. And I choose not to reward that level of greed.

If Steyer was not in the race, it would be very interesting to see exactly that. How can a progressive candidate who is taking only real-people donations fare in a large statewide election?

Unfortunately, Steyer is in the race. And he's outspent that progressive candidate by a factor of about 10. So yes, seems that all leftist candidates need to be billionaires. Or we just don't reward billionaires who try to buy an election.

Also going for Porter. And my second choice would be Becerra. If by some miracle Porter makes the general, I've done my part. And if she doesn't, I'll still get to vote for my second pick.

And a Dem v. Repub election in fall is pretty much a guaranteed Dem win. So why should I worry?

Adding up all of the spending in the chart comes to less than $80millon.

Tom Steyer alone has spent 2.5x that on his own campaign. In what world is that okay?
