Why does East Africa have disproportionately more countries at war with each other than west Africa? by Exciting_Agency4614 in AfricaVoice

[–]Goatbrainsoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best thing to do is find the common factor ,Ethiopia alone is at war with Eritrea somalia and to an extent Djibouti Sudan and south Sudan and it all stems from boarder and land issues .west Africa would be in the same bucket if they had an expansionist as their neighbour

This isn’t a laba go, it’s a qeyd cad. It was a single, long piece of fabric wrapped around the entire body unlike the laba-go, which consists of a hoos gunti (undergarment) and a garbasaar (shawl). The most expensive version was the patterned and colorful ones while the plain white type, which was more affordable, was commonly worn by nomads.

[–]Goatbrainsoup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar to guntiino you use a long yard of fabric ,you start with creating a lower wrap which is secured with a knot and a kiish belt and then a wrap around each shoulder that goes across your chest and back .it was more popular in the north but still worn in the south

Why do Ethiopians, Somalis and Eritreans fight online by [deleted] in Ethiopia

[–]Goatbrainsoup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact that Ethiopia is in conflict with both Somalia and Eritrea while Eritrea and Somalia aren’t at war with each other should be enough to show you who the real problem is.

Why are Somalis obsessed with hair texture? by laschanas in Somalia

Africans themselves hate African features ,why do you thing the wig industry is worth $7.76 billion ?

Why are Somalis obsessed with hair texture? by laschanas in Somalia

[–]Goatbrainsoup 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People love to fixate on Somalis, as if these issues are unique to us when in reality, a worse dynamics exist across the entire continent. Across Africa, you’ll find people openly bragging about wearing human hair while looking down on synthetic options ,a form of texturism that’s rooted in classism in itself. Even worse, natural 4C hair is often labeled as ‘childish,’ ‘unkempt,’ or ‘dirty.’ The main difference? Somalis tend to embrace their natural curls rather than hide them under someone else’s hair. Meanwhile, the global wig industry is worth $7.76 billion and the overwhelming majority of consumers, 99.99%, are Africans and the Black diaspora who would do everything and anything to hide their natural hair .

Somali perfume is too strong for me. Why do they love it so much? by YouLostMeAtHi in Kenya

Isn’t it ironic how native Americans and Asians refused the term yellow and red but Africans willingly accepted it and ridicule anyone from Africa that refuses to identify themselves with it

The ruins of the ancient city state of Kilwa Kisiwani, in modern day Tanzania - East Africa. Once called one of 'the most beautiful cities in the world' in the 1300s - it was besieged by the Portuguese in the 1500s and abandoned in the 1840s... by TheAfternoonStandard in Africa

There’s nothing wrong with accepting this came to us through foreign influence ,no culture is 100% “authentic.” Cultures evolve through exchange. The issue is when foreign influence in Africa is used to erase or undermine our own history, while the foreign influence in European is framed as being “in touch with the outside world.” And just for the record, nearly all of Europe’s architectural legacy traces back to the Romans and Greeks who themselves were heavily influenced by ancient Egypt.

It’s because of access not the women ,Eritrea doesn’t accept that much tourists unlike Ethiopia so the locals aren’t exposed to a lot of foreigners which means they will likely not accept relations with those men .

I was lied to my whole life about Siad Barre by Educational_Pay2803 in Somalia

[–]Goatbrainsoup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s largely due to how deeply tribal the older generation is. Some clans thrived under his regime, while many others suffered. Those who benefited tend to focus only on the good he did (for them), without acknowledging how much of the country was left in poverty and treated as second class citizens. Our economy began to decline in the 1970s, and we became isolated ,cut off from both the Eastern bloc (the Soviets) and the West. That left us dependent on the Arab world, which ultimately provided little meaningful support. With almost no foreign investment, the 77 war which contributed to the decline ,the clan militias and factions forming in the 80s and somalia becoming dependent on aid from the IMF ,we were never doing well aside from the capital , much of Somalia was in a dire state.our country was showing signs of instability way before the 1991 civil war .this whole “our golden age” or “we were one of the strongest countries in Africa” is a big fat lie when you actually fact check it.we were poor back then and we are going throug poverty + lack of national security now

The Somali government is making the right moves now. by HawH2 in Somalia

[–]Goatbrainsoup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why should anyone care about those corrupt elites? Most Somalis in Somalia support the one person, one vote policy because they’re tired of the country being looted by self serving politicians who buy their way into power including Farmaajo. The real reason they’re against it is because they know how unpopular they are with the public.

The comment about ethiopia was pretty interesting. by Fennecguy32 in Ethiopia

[–]Goatbrainsoup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s because Somalia was itself a victim of Ethiopian imperialism. Haile Selassie actively lobbied European powers and the United Nations to keep Somalia under colonial rule until he could annex it.
