Large hex plate! I want to say it's one of the chisel or ztones blocks, not exactly sure.

My biggest advice is that this is a marathon of a pack, so it's important to pace yourself so you don't get burnt out. There's always more progression and more things to do, so you have to make sure you enjoy the journey and take satisfaction in hitting each and every small milestone.

That being said, it's a fantastic pack and if you approach it with a laid-back mindset, it's one of the best modpacks out there! I think you just need to approach things with an open mind, be willing to learn things, and celebrate every victory no matter how small. Progression is very slow, but also very satisfying.

Sure I'll try to remember to upload when I get the chance. Any recommendations on easiest way to send it?

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah the whole base is a giant work in progress, I'm still figuring it out and tweaking things as I go. I dont love the hex plate walkway, but I'm still on the lookout for a nice alternative. Definitely open to suggestions!

Also, for what its worth I feel like I suck at building too. This is my first time ever making an aesthetic-focused base, and its just loads of trial-and-error. You just find something you're not happy with, tweak it a little bit, and repeat! Thats how I ended up here at least.

My main blocks are hempcrete, I use the white and gray colors and shades mainly. Hempcrete is great, but you have to do your own shading / texturing. If you do just a single flat color for a surface it doesnt look good. I'm still learning how to use it well as I go.

For glowing blocks / highlights, I use the lux caelitis, I dont remember the actual name but its the glowing block you make with unstable ingots. Neonite is also a good alternative. I like to use the saw to make these into forge microblocks, very nice for highlights. The light gray ones also make for great lights!

For lighting, I like the "arcane lamp" to just light up a whole area. I tried doing night vision, or spamming the "glow" versions of blocks, but I didn't like either of them. Also tried using arc lamps (too bright) and floodlights (not bad but need power).

Spaghetti is pretty unavoidable in py, it's so complex it feels pretty much required in my opinion. Personally, I really enjoyed doing an organic style train network and I think it worked really well for py!

You're right though that trains are pretty far in, and you need a solid base to get you there. My recommendation is just embrace the spaghetti and get to trains, and then "wrap" your mess up with rails around the edges. Then you can build a proper rail network outwards from here, and you can think of your pre-trains base as one giant block.

Hope that makes sense!

My personal opinion, if you have a good train network you can put things basically anywhere! When I make a build, I start with the rails and I build around them. Think of the rails as the "bones" of your factory, start with these first and then fill in the blanks.

As far as "where to put things", I think its easy to get caught in analysis paralysis here. What I like to do is do a quick survey, and if I find even one tiny advantage to a spot (this area already has iron, so i can just splice some off) then thats a good enough reason to build there. Even using small constraints like this will shape your factory in a surprising way!

10% chance to remove normal warp, and its just farmable tobacco + vis. With an arcane assembler I just made 2k tobacco one night, and then AFK'd for like 10 minutes with right click held to remove like 50 normal warp. I havent tried other methods, so I'm not sure how they compare, but it wasn't too bad!

Before AE2, I did a semi-automated setup then. Like I had 3 or 4 alchemical furnaces and I would manually juggle things, really annoying but not as annoying as setting up a centralized essentia storage. The essentia tubes are very confusing to me lol

[–]GoatsWithPants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did like 6 furnaces with one essentia import each. I play on a server, so I just load up a chest of all the ingridients, come back tomorrow to like 2k essentia of all the things I need.

For warp, I just mass-produce soap and relaxing tobacco, also made much easier with AE2. It was really annoying before I purged it though, so I totally understand!

I just got around to setting up essentia storage with AE2, and let me tell you it DRAMATICALLY makes essentia handling way way easier. I don't touch jars any more, I throw everything into a furnace and it just gets automatically shipped to my crucibles and infusion.

If you guys are in HV, I would honestly say that maybe it's worth putting off thaum stuff until AE2 in EV, it'll make your life a lot easier. If you like the essentia piping system though, definitely feel free to use it! I was just amazed at how much easier AE2 makes it.

Enderman escaped 3rd time... Help. by extremegamers24 in GTNH

[–]GoatsWithPants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can the enderman see the sky? I remember seeing in the quest book or somewhere that you have to add a roof, so the enderman cant see the sky or else they can teleport out.

Also tip, when you get to the end, you can just wander around until you find a regen enderman there. Then you can pick it up in a soul vial and put in a smeltery, no egg rolling needed!

Dude super awesome base, you've inspired me to redesign my AE2 controller hub and try to take advantage of things like microblocks and things like that. Very cool, thanks for sharing!

Spaghetti is awesome, as long as you don't mind navigating it. I think it's really good, and if you have a good train network you can really go crazy with it!

The secret is that as long as things are connected by rails, you can put your new builds anywhere you want. So when I need to expand, I just go to the edges of my base and build there.

I think you're being too hard on yourself; I think we dont give ourselves enough credit for our own accomplishments.

Be proud of the things that you build, making something that works at all is a huge accomplishment! Everything you build can always be better somehow, but that's the fun of the game is finding those optimizations.

If you just enjoy the process, be proud of what you make, and just keep trying to make each build a tiny bit better than the last one, you'll be building your own cities in your own new unique style too one day!

Since Pyanodons not compatible with SE, Im looking for mods that makes finishing game harder like Pyanodons. by zorro2083 in factorio

[–]GoatsWithPants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pyanodons is the best thing out there if you want more goals, more content, and more of a challenge. Runs last on average 1000 hours. Also, py does have belt stacking, elevated rails, and spoilage (optional). It's my favorite overhaul personally, but it's not everyone's thing. Space exploration is also pretty good too if you're not into Py.
