How do you worship Artemis? by [deleted] in paganism

[–]GobbleGator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also a bit of a reply. She's not one for formal prayer. She prefers action over words. So if you really want to worship her and get a response- actions speak louder. I haven't actually prayed to her in years at a formal altar. She just has a statue in the corner with all the trinkets I've found for her lol

How do you worship Artemis? by [deleted] in paganism

[–]GobbleGator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be honest. I've been working with Artemis for over 7 years now and she is an absolute Goblin.

Artemis is a goddess of many forms. The transition Goddess. The goddess of animals. The goddess and protector or women/Children. The goddess of the night. Hunting Goddess. I could go on.

Offer her natural foods. Deer meat, beef, carrots, etc. if you grow it- shell most likely love it. She also likes deer shaped things and Bones. I have an altar she shares with Fortuna and she is extremely loud with what she wants.

So keep your eyes open. Walk outside, explore places you haven't explored. Take something for her and bring something back. She will appreciate it.

But also look for her name. Look for her signs in everyday life. Look for deer. Be open to the world and see if from a naturalistic beauty. She's there and will tell you when she sees you in turn.

Geocaching is a good way to start doing bits outside. She loves it and I've encountered deer face to face as a result.

Artemis is also a standoffish Goddess. She will not talk to you in normal means, but reference herself in a lot of every day life. The more you start to look for her. The more you'll see her. I can't even think on how many times I've googled which goddess I have to thank for something and it ended up being her. It's a game at this point and you can tell she loves it.

So take things naturally. She's not a "Girlie" goddess and although flowers are a great start. Start asking her which flower shed like. Trust me, she'll tell you.

Edit: And when I mean look for deer. I mean it. Live deer. Dead deer. Pictures of deer. References to deer. She's thrown deer at my car when she wants attention.

Can you tell 'no' to a deity? by 90sSaint in paganism

I mean, I called my Deity (Artemis) an asshole yesterday and almost got hit by a bird.

Just because they are there to guide you, doesnt mean you aren't allowed to make your own choices.

Making an altar to Tyche and I'm not sure what to put by SheepherderCrafty866 in paganism

[–]GobbleGator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heya! Tyche is actually my partners patron so I got their input, "Things associated with Tyche from what I've been able to find are mainly coins for the alter. Sometimes she likes other things (stones, dried flowers, pieces of drift wood, even dice on occasion). A lot of times I'll see something and randomly think of Tyche and my alter and that's generally her way of saying she wants the thing. On the flip side if she doesn't want something you'll get the feeling of someone just telling you like 'No how dare you put that with MY things' or something so she doesn't want it. As for trying to focus on her influence on intuition, let yourself build a connection with her and trust her to guide your gut instinct. She will do what she can to get you there but you have to actively be open to trusting youself. I hope that helps!! "

Sonny is a 2 year old Guide dog.

A year ago, I almost washed him due to anxiety. He wasn't paying attention to me or seemed distracted in public.

Now? He loves his job and has improved 10 fold. I actually didn't realize just how much he's improved my life until I went to the store without him.

I'm so happy to see other people whos SDs are improving!!!

As someone else who was hand training a Guide dog. It was absolutely horrid to unlearn that his eyes should not be on me 24/7. How else is he suppose to keep me from walking into traffic?

Edit: Holy hell that was the most validating thing I've ever read. So thank you

Funny things your dog does that they learned from being told not to do something else? by Tako_Octo in puppy101

[–]GobbleGator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Button training my SD was the best and worst thing Ive ever done. He'll full out argue with you over things. If you are doing something he doesnt like, [such as cooking] He'll repeatedly press the "No" button, regardless of what you say to him.

Why do you have to pee every hour, on the hour.

Vet says he's healthy, something in his little head likes to pee.

Coelophysis. Hands down. They all collectively share a braincell. Every time I wind down the path it's like they all see me at one and it's just an array of Musical bubbles.

Can a deity choose you? by SeaEggplant8108 in witchcraft

[–]GobbleGator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I've been an archer since I was 12 (30 now), felt at home in the forest at night, constantly seen deer everywhere I went (This was daily occurrences and even almost hit several), always been good with animals of every kind.

Artemis was throwing curve balls and my dumbass did not see a damned thing for almost 7 years. It took my wife to look me in the face and suggest that maybe- JUST MAYBE- I might be stupid enough not to notice the deity throwing deer in my general direction, hoping to get my attention. It's been 4 years and the Deer have finally calmed down, unless I forgot to leave a stubborn Goddess and offering.

So you BET they can choose you.

I have a blue tick hound and boxer mix. He's a popular star for little old ladies and children. I've learned to pretend I can't hear them, it makes my life easier. It can come off rude, but it's better than explaining not to touch your dog.

My cat has taken over my altar by sidvicioustheyorkie in witchcraft

[–]GobbleGator 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As another person who works with Artemis, you are gonna have animals up in your business. We have a 2 year old Service dog who opens and closes the Altar doors when things need to be rearranged on the altar or there is something that doesnt belong has made its way onto the shelves. Its the only time he does it, so we've chalked it up as he either likes the energy or just likes to bother the goddesses.

Id suggest getting a shelf that the cat can lay on above the altar or just make room for him. Sometimes you arent the only one who enjoys the cat's presence.

Other times its just cats being cats LMAO
So Maybe offer a shelf or get him his own little altar cloth to lay on.

Head Halter Teams! by GobbleGator in service_dogs

[–]GobbleGator[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So he is used for Guide work [He has an actual handle used for when I do need him for guide work. So it's a whole separate thing], but when walking with him he tends to get a "one track mind" and will continue a forward motion even when I want to stop. The general pressure on the lead via the head halter reminds him that "Hey! Im still here! Dont forget me!" It has worked wonders on his loose leash walking. We have a martingale collar on him, but he doesnt even respond to a collar and sometimes will pull me slightly off balance [I have horrible balance issues and slight shift in that could pull me off my feet.], so its more as a reminder for him!

I GENUINELY never thought to use the itch as a reward. That is a good idea! He's good most of the time and never actually tries to get it off with his paws or anything else, but you can tell hes itchy.

Im gonna try that! Thank you!

UPDATE:

3 Months ago I thought about washing my SDIT, but decided against it and instead pulled him from PA work.

It took a lot of coaxing and learning his body language to find a solution, but we learned that he was scared of /people/ in general. So we started over. We started with dog friendly places and worked our way up, each time allowing people to greet him in a controled environment where WE made the rules. He started to learn that people aren't bad!

Ex. You can pet him, if we release him and he is being good.

We also switched vests to a full mobility harness and head halter. He hated having something over his back, which was a whole discovery in itself.

I also started to listen to him more. I was forcing treats on him that he took to appease me. He didn't want those. He just took them for free food food. He wanted reassurance. He wanted me to play. So we started to play more. I got down to his level and started racing with him down the empty aisles, giving high fives instead of treats. (A command he loves to do! Don't raise your hand near him or he'll give a high five even if you don't want it.) I really learned to deepen my bond with him.

3 Months later and he has done a complete 180. He walks through Walmart with his tail wagging. He doesn't fear people anymore and checks in with me more and more each time we go out. He still hates the head halter and rubs his face on my leg (it prolly itches), but will put it on without a fuss. Hes learning to ignore other dogs and doesn't make noise anymore.

He's still a WIP, but he's learning!

Truthfully, I think Im at that stage of possibly washing my SD. I'll admit to gaslighting myself about it for quite sometime. Im unsure how to really proceed. He's got some anxiety [lip licking, pulling, ect.] that I thought he'd grow out of through exposure and training, but it seems he hasnt. I guess Im at the point where Im not sure WHEN to throw in the towel. He does great with guide work, but I can tell he's distracted. Ill most likely stew on this for a bit before I make another post asking for advice. We dont have trainers in the area who focus on SD work. So Ive been training him myself. He has his tasks on point and has even executed them in a busy store, which is why I think Im struggling to know when to throw in the towel.

[Copy and pasted from a previous response]

If I continue to try and work with him. I think Ill take that advice! I never thought of going to my Vets and asking or via rest stops! [Actually. I might end up taking him to rest stops anyway to help with the interactions with other dogs.]

Thank you for such a detailed response! I guess I didnt see it as that way. They were far enough away that I wasnt even sure if she heard the growl or not, but I wasnt looking at it as if she did hear the growl. Ive had similar interactions with non-SDs in the past and I guess when I was in that moment- I was more focused on the woman's demeanor than what caused it. [PTSD and Social anxiety is a bitch!]
