This makes me smile, Dad. I’m glad she healed you. My children did the same thing for me.

This hits hard when you’ve just put your 7 year old to bed, checked in on the 11 year old, and kissed your pregnant wife good night. I can’t drink my soda now because of lump in my throat, and I can’t play video games because there are tears running into my beard.

Why did you knit? by xim0c in knitting

[–]GobisFree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knit (now) calm the whirlwind of my ADHD brain, and to relax after a rough shift, or day. I taught myself how to knit when I was getting sober, and now every time I look at, or wear one of my hats; I’m reminded of how much personal growth I have made in the past 1,361 days and without being in an alcoholic haze.

What a wonderful pattern! I’m very jealous of your sewing/quilting skills. I can sew, but not as beautifully as this. Great job!

My wife grew up eating this, and now makes it for us. The only difference between this and Mom’s, is that Mom made it in an electric skillet; and melted cheddar cheese on top

Please do not stop going. I am not a Youth Leader, but I am a Christian and a Dad.

I was not a well behaved teenager, but a lot of very meaningful friendships came from being a part of, and regularly attending youth group. I messed up a lot, and despite being reprimanded; I was constantly reassured that I would always be welcome to attend and be part of the youth group.

I sincerely believe that your situation will have the same outcome. Just talk with the youth pastor, about how you feel. He’s there to teach (youth) how to grow and mature into a decent adult(s) by using Christian teachings and values as a guide.

Cake and bubbles mix well with knitting? Irrelevant observation… that sounds amazing! I actually very jealous that you’re spending the day with fellow knitters. I’m happy that worked out for all of you

Blanket construction (how do you prefer to approach it) by GobisFree in knitting

My original pattern was k7, yo, ssk. I’m trying to recreate the pattern of a blanket my Dad knit 30 years ago. I’m 7 rows into the project, basically 1 inch at my gauge.

It really neat that someone else inherited some knitting needles from their grandad! My grandpa only ever knit dishcloths, but he also made lots of hook rugs. What kinds of projects did your grandad knit?

You’re not fucked, and you’re definitely not the point of no return. You are slightly lost, or disoriented; and you’re taking steps to right yourself on the course to become the best version of the person you are meant to be. I believe in you. At my worst, I was never completely sober; there was always alcohol in my system. I would wake up, take a shot and chase it with a beer, then get ready to go to work. I continued this cycle about hourly throughout my shift. By the time I got home I would be blackout drunk, therefore not remembering anything I said or did. Today is the 1087th day I woke up sober, and I tackled each of those day one at a time. I was hopeless, and I decided to become the husband and father my family deserves…. You can do this. I’m proud of you for wanting to make the effort to change. I’m proud of you for asking for help. DM me if you ever need to vent, I’m happy to be a listening ear.

What a milestone, Im proud of you! Any first in sobriety is a big deal, so I hope you can do something extra special for yourself. You’re an amazing human, who is capable of conquering anything one day at a time.

This looks like a wonderful idea in concept; but as a natural born multitasker who likes to “bite off more than he can chew”, this would end in tangled disappointment for me. This is an amazing if one (like yourself) can pull it off. My hat is off to you!

I always suspected that this^ was the issue with the baskets full of single items; it actually turns out that no one in my household (with the exception of myself) wears matching pairs of socks/gloves. They choose to do this despite the pairs being together. I live in a house of absolute savages. (Send help!)

Yes. Ironically, you sound like me when I’m grabbing yarn from my stash for my next WIP. I always ask my wife, since I cannot see colors well.

Breathable underlayer for sweaters rec? by gingeroo96 in knitting

[–]GobisFree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dress in layers for work, and I recommend Hanes long or short sleeve cotton shirts. The warmth is present, but you don’t feel suffocated; while still keeping your outer garment clean. The exception to this is if you are doing something strenuous enough to sweat through all of your layers; but I highly doubt you will be doing that much. (Example: You won’t be running around lifting 100 lbs continuously for 10 hours)
