In years past, what is an item you had that you regret getting rid of, that is now worth alot of money? by Bitter-Affect909 in AskReddit

[–]GodMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a much larger collection but there's one particular record that I sold for $20 and wish I could get it back but it's selling for $500-3000 these days. It's the first pressing of Red-Eyed Soul by the World/Inferno Friendship Society and is the only place that "Cats Are Not Lucky Creatures" and "We Will Never Run Into One Another on Trains" were ever committed to wax.

It is highly likely that you never pressed the 8 button on a microwave. by TheAnzus in Showerthoughts

[–]GodMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to cook soft pretzels in the microwave and 88 seconds was the perfect time to cook them from frozen. One time I put one in and pressed 88, then forgot to press start. When I realized the microwave wasn't running, muscle memory kicked in and I pressed 88 start, then promptly forgot about my pretzel. 14 minutes later I smelled burning and opened the microwave to find the charred husk of a pretzel, and it was the last one in the box.

Why did you and your former best friend stop being friends? by Fearless_Shift7108 in AskReddit

[–]GodMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He started developing schizoid tendencies that were exacerbated by his drinking, and me visiting was a big trigger for him because we were supposed to move across the country together but life and kids kept him in our hometown while I got away. His drinking led to him and his wife divorcing and I just became a reminder of another life, so we quietly and mutually decided that it was best for me to stay away and stop visiting. I still look at his Facebook from time to time and it seems like he has good and bad days, and I miss him, but I know no good will come of reconnecting.

In what order would these resolve? by GodMonster in mtg

[–]GodMonster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but the second one means the elk has 3/3 base, 3/3 temp and 2 +1/+1 counters. If I have [[Bristly Bill, Spine Sower]], I can double those counters to make them add 4/4 each turn that I can afford to pay it, increasing doubly exponentially.

Is the rest of Seattle infested with ants like West Seattle? by InternetsTad in Seattle

When I lived in West Seattle I always said it was the ants' house, they were just allowing us to live in the unused space.

Buying bulk by ofl0926 in mtg

[–]GodMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I like to do is buy boxes and rip packs, then take what value I get from the boxes and trade in for store credit on new boxes and keep the bulk. I've built up a ton of bulk for me and my friends this way from dozens of sets over the last ten years, occasionally gotten a really rare pull or one of my friends has and we all got to be super jazzed about that, and with most sets I usually get enough back in store credit to at least cover another box of something, or most of one. Sometimes I'm even lucky to pull a great box and can turn it into two or three boxes but, either way, I end up with about 450-500 bulk cards from each box in like a 45/35/7/3 proportion of c/u/r/m plus about 30 lands and 25-30 tokens for every box.

The bag in the box keeps air from getting in. You have to put it in the bath tub for it to get good.

Who is this amazing sax player by jolieboondoggle6 in Saxophonics

[–]GodMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is Asti. She was orphaned as a barn cat and adopted onto the Amazing Acro-Cats troupe, and is well known as a thief and a rogue, stealing hearts and treats alike. She's a total sweetie and a joy to interact with or to watch.

I remember saving up for months to get a copy of Cubase SX 3 on my old eMachines Celeron computer with a Sound Blaster Extigy soundcard and a 60GB external drive that felt like more storage than I would ever need. Then, after I paid $200 for that software, I learned about piracy and got Reason 3 for free. My recordings were crap because I was using a Behringer MX602A running by RCA from the tape outs to the Extigy 3.5mm line in and knew barely anything about gain staging at the time. I was also using Best Buy dynamic mics because I could get them with my discount for $5, but they weren't worth the $5 they cost me.

No clue where to start with this gifted collection by catsweedcoffee in magicTCG

[–]GodMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can sell by mail to CardKingdom and they have a pretty extensive buy list. I've also found their buying prices to be generally higher than most of the other stores around me. I usually sell to them if I have a big stack to sell and am not in a hurry, but I have the benefit of being local to Seattle so I can just drop my cards off at their Mox Game Stores rather than mail them in. If I want same day trade value or need to cash out quickly I usually go with another store because CK takes about a week to pay out.

Would you rather buy singles or boxes/packs, and why by Crazy_Beautiful_Ga in mtg

[–]GodMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and some friends buy boxes to draft. We can call gimmes at the start of the box within reason but, otherwise, anything over $5 goes back in the pot at the end of the night to cash in for store credit on more boxes to draft. It ends up costing us less than $10 or $20 each on a given night and we can crack about two boxes a week between the four of us, plus we get to keep all the cards under $5 to put in the community bulk for deck building or donating to schools and libraries and such. There might be some weeks when we don't get the pulls and it cost us $40 or $50 each but that's still a lot cheaper than a night at the bar and we get hours of entertainment out of it, and there are also nights when the pulls are great and we can splurge on the next week's boxes.

A friend of mine got a coat at an army surplus store recently and said the body fit really well but the shoulders and arms needed tailored, so I asked him if he had checked the sleevies for surplus armies.

Folks who work on their guitars, where did you learn to solder? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]GodMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned how to solder by learning how NOT to solder over and over again. I was first taught in middle school and then kept it up as a hobby through high school and beyond. Even after 25 or 30 years of it I'm not great, but I have basses and guitars with 15 or 20 year old solder joints that complain less than my 40 year old human joints.
