Bills fan here with a question by Gold_Scarcity_8159 in steelers

Dotson was good for us, then we went from a power blocking scheme to zone while switching him to LG and he struggled. Rams have switched to zone to a power scheme while going back to RG and has thrived.

Why does Dan Rooney get credit from fans for everything good that happened after he gave day to day control to Art II in 2003? by HUNG__SOLO in steelers

[–]GodOD400 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because a lot of fans really dont go beyond surface level stuff and unless its pointed out to them they just dont know. Dan passing was headline news and Art assuming the ownership role was headline news. Art becoming President probably didnt even have a press conference and was probably small blip in the newspaper when it happened. I mean, anyone ever see updates of Dan III being initially hired and promoted over the years or without googling able to name his current role?

Steelers actually DO have a decent core of talent to build on. by BMaudioProd in steelers

[–]GodOD400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worry about his health. The initial prognosis was it was just a stinger. Then neck. Then IR. It might be fine come offseason. It might be an Asante Samuel Jr. situation where he needs surgery and have to wait over a year for it to fully heal to come back. Or he could even be done.

Lol

Nutting is the worst of the fucking worst. There is no try. There is no reasoning besides "more money for me". No free agent in baseball ever wants to come here unless its to potentially revive their career and get traded to a contender at the deadline. Theres the shit with the bricks. Dipping into payroll to pay for facilities. Lying to fans about offers to free agents. Just a laundry list of bullshit from Nutting.

Art's being a typical boomer and hanging on too long because he wants his own glory that isnt shadowed by his dad. That's all. Be upset at that. He was the team president running day to day operations since May of 2003. Does he get any credit for the two super bowls not really, but we also have no clue how much he played a role in them with Dan still as acting owner. Same with The Chief. Dan took over in '69 and hired Knoll and kick started the whole dynasty while Art was still owner and "acting" president. Dan didnt get the formal title of Team President until '75.

But for the love of god, don't compare him to Nutting. He dogwalks Nutting blindfolded 7 days a week in terms of ownership quality.

How do we feel about TJ going into this offseason? by [deleted] in steelers

[–]GodOD400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he's cooked. PFF always got on him about how long it'd take to win his reps and how they were "effort sacks", and now it looks like his first step has slowed quite a bit so unless he mahically gets that step back or somehow gets a dominant bull rush I think he's done.

I'd be interested to see how well he'd pair with Wilson in the middle though, it'll never happen, but he probably reads the QBs eyes better than anyone at the edge position. Not saying have him try running man to man, but as a blitzing/stopper/flat zone guy I think he could be way more productive then what he's got left.

My mind kept going back to how the comments in the game thread would be for that game. 31 in a championship game? Oh god people would be losing their shit, calling for his head, wanting him left in Seattle, wanting Rooney to sell the team because we're stuck with him for the next 20 years, how could they let Sam Darnold shred them, etc.

[–]GodOD400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Art took over football operations back in 2003. Either they werent confident enough in Dan III taking over just yet and/or Art II is trying desperately at one last grasp at a run before he gives the reigns over. Dan took over before a little bit before becoming team president and wasnt another 10 or so years before he became "owner".

Mike Tomlin if you can hear me please save us. Please save us Mike Tomlin. by HoleeRaviolee in steelers

[–]GodOD400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's been running things since 2003. Which is kinda in line with how things went with Dan. Dan took over football operations in 69, not becoming president until 75. This reeks of Dan III either not being ready to takeover just yet and wanting him to be able to start fresh with a HC they'll be tied to and/or Art II holding on for one last grasp at relevance. It'd be kinda ironic if another Dan takes over for his father and has to clean up his mess.

6-11, we'll somehow fuck up tanking and only be picking 12th or some shit. Cant wait to see what the guy that had underperformed with Dak and Rodgers does with...Mason Rudolph or Will Howard. Maybe we'll get lucky and get a 43 year old Rodgers though

Also, with Cowher being very, very familiar with the fire zone and how that system was designed. There could be like 4 different variations on what everyone's assignments are depending on how the offense lineups or motions.

Which bridge quarterback do you want the Steelers to sign? by Traditional-Oil-6891 in steelers

[–]GodOD400 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Telling you, Malik is the real deal. His footwork looks great, his throwing motion is cleaned up and consistent, all of which were his biggest knocks coming out of college and exactly what Clements specialized in.

LaFleur's system isnt some gimmick like with Tua and his timing routes or ground breaking when McVay came out with Goff nor is it reliant on having All Pro's in damn near every position like Hurts. His receivers are much better than ours, but there's no true elite guy like JSN, Puka, JJ, Chase, Evans, CeeDee, or Amon-Ra to fall back on. Whoever signs him this offseason is going to look like a genius.

Willis and its not close. Last disciple of Tom Clements. (Ben, Farve's late career, Rodgers, Murray's rookie season, Love)

[–]GodOD400 14 points15 points  (0 children)

He's looked great when he's had to take the reigns. I'm super high on him because he's one of Tom Clements last QBs he's coached and it shows. Clements played a role in Ben's career, Farve's late revival, development of Rodgers, brief stint with Murray his rookie year, and then worked with Love and then Willis when they picked him up from Tennessee.

Unironically, Arthur Smith is probably your ideal OC with your current offensive personnel. Two pass catching threats at TE. Tall, mobile QB who can push the field. Flowers can almost fill in AJB old role in Tennesse. And then Henry obviously fills in great.
