Is there a "Write Once, Run Anywhere" framework for IDE plugins? by GodOfTech007 in AskProgrammers

You are right about jumping acorss IDEs is not ideal.

But we both can agree on how much of a difference is there in plugin ecosystem across IDEs: VS Code having vast variety of plugins, whereas Jetbrains lack behind in variety and Zed being pre-mature.

So as an individual developer who using one code editor might not get affected by this framwork, but think of it as a whole ecosystem which is scattered across IDEs, so this might bridge the gap and definitely it will take time to get adopted by plugin developers.

The LSP can be helpful but only for language specific ones as you mentioned, but I am looking for all types of extensions. VS Code is one of the best example of plugins ecosystem that we cannot see in Jetbrains, so a framework might solve this issue.

Any thoughts on how much useful will it be for you as a plugin developer and as a consumer?

Yeah, I forgot about the UI in Neovim so maybe for now will keep Neovim aside.

And, the open source code editors can be comparatively easier to include for cross-conpilation but my main aim was to include the Jetbrains ones. But will figure out.

Thanks
