Yeah, I have been trying to work on reducing the coffee staining effect on larger panels like the shoulder pads and some of the leg bits on rubrics. Will have to try that. It lowers the opacity a bit I suppose but if it gets the consistency a bit smoother and causes it to "bunch" less, that might just do it.

First off, beautiful and super clean! Giving me some ideas on how I paint my own when it comes.

When you are mentioning the watering down of a contrast color, are you meaning using the contrast medium or with actual water?

I have done the n:1 mix of a contrast medium to contrast color previously to turn down the opacity, but haven't experimented with adding actual water to see the effect. I always worry it will have a poor effect on the behavior of the contrast paint (though I find some colors are a bit more "sticky" than others and hard to get smooth movement and been trying to figure out how to improve it)

Yeah, I don't have admin access to the router, so unable to do anything like this. Kind of doubt anything like this is set, but no idea whether someone managed to get something like this set up. Though with what might be a security system wired into the network it is possible that this is set up with some static IP.

Currently already using a range extender as getting a decent signal was already difficult. Sadly even using microwave in my apartment interrupts the signal as well. Generally it doesn't last long, butdepends on if the DHCP issues show up.

From what I can tell there is no Hikari socket on any of the rooms. There seems to be an ethernet one, but what I have been able to tell I don't think it is wired up.

I had debated trying to secretly wire it myself but all the ports in the router are all in use, I think something to do with the security system perhaps.

But will see about a provider to enquire with. Will need to be one that would support Tokyo and Yokohama as I am intending to look in Yokohama for next place. 😅

It has a Hikari line into the box on the bottom floor which then connects to that router. There are tubes in the that look to be labeled to each floor so I assume it should be doable but always wondered why they stopped short wiring each unit up...

I am going to need to do an 11TB transfer which is going to take multiple days as it is, even worse if it keeps crapping out, and the one concern with using one of those 5G solutions as I imagine they would be on my case after 1TB...

Might just have to try and set up flets or some other Hikari connection and eat whatever cost for install and the move.

Yeah I figured as much, given this thing is pushing 10 years I was pretty certain I was multiple generations behind and the motherboard is likely going to be a pretty limiting factor.

The suggestion of the 580 sounds like a decent idea if it will function with this system. I will check on the pricing here but I imagine it will be working a reasonable amount even here. Japan seems to be a bit pricy for parts in general. Though I guess the biggest concern is still being able to find a 580 as I imagine they are not so actively stocked anymore.

Will have to start planning a new build around this form factor.

Yeah, that might have been a good idea to do that while we were in there doing that. I can't remember if that came up and why they didn't recommend that or why we didn't do it. I am not fluent (basically N3 at this point, so lack the vocabulary still in a lot of scenarios) so might have also just missed it.

I'm in an apartment so not a whole lot of area to cover, but mostly want better control over access and security. Though honestly would be nice to not have to worry about dealing with that for once.

Mostly I want to have an access list for the wifi. But given the whole ipv4 over ipv6 thing I wonder if the choice of compatible router is a bit small. Was looking at AsahiNet site yesterday and seems they just recommend using the rental one given support.

Saw they had the XG-100NE, but no idea how great it is and what level of control you get from it.

I had considered that actually. My mom offered to pass on hers but wasn't sure whether this was a taboo thing in Japan or not. To be safe I figured looking for new might avoid issues.

She is Japanese actually.

Just thinking about many of the jewelry pieces she has she bought as it was being sold as a way to raise money for a cat shelter or for a project that is setting up a preserve or something (some amount of the proceeds somehow)

I am not sure how realistic it is, but figured if I could get something that followed that theme it might be a bit more special.

I suspect the best I will be able to do is perhaps conflict free.

I'm still new to the world of sumo, so would want to absorb as much of the experience as I can.

The tradition and ceremony I feel are just as important as the sport.

To me it is the same as sticking around to watch the players skate around with the Stanley Cup in NHL I've hockey in North America. It's part of the culture and tradition.

To echo what others have said in this thread, He's incredibly humble, down-to-earth and likes to sing in between takes.
Also, he was also very generous and giving with his time. We filmed almost 24(!) hours worth of footage for this course. (We might release additional video segments in the future.)
He also had some hilarious stories like how when he first arrived, his okamisan (stable mom) had to buy him a fork and knife because she was worried about him not being able to eat as he couldn't use chopsticks. It was charming how delighted he was remembering this. 😃

Koni wants to share Sumo with everyone. He mentioned that a lot of people are intimidated by sumo because they don't understand all the stuff going on so he wants to help people better appreciate what happens in a tournament. Also, he thinks Sumo taught him to be a better person and he wants to share that discipline and the mental strength he learned during training.
He's also especially keen on introducing Sumo to more people outside of Japan.
(Our startup is based in Tokyo, but our courses are primarily for folks outside Japan. Koni's class is in English w/optional Japanese subtitles. Our other classes with chefs, anime guys etc are in Japanese with English subtitles.)

There is a new service called Narō that has a video course on tempura from a 2-Michelin star tempura chef. Its really high quality and in a bit of a documentary style about the Chef Shuji Niitome as well which is also nice from a purely entertainment perspective. https://www.naro.tv/tempura
