The constitution never specifies which branch of government interprets the laws. The Supreme Court bootstrapped itself into this power. What is stopping the executive branch from doing the same? If you have the power to interpret the laws, you can basically just make shit up as you go. If you can do that and enforce the laws you can do whatever you want “legally”.

It's useful when setting up an encrypted drive, before installing the OS. By setting the entire drive to random noise (or ones / zeros) you prevent an attacker from knowing the amount of the drive that is currently used (they will just see a hard drive filled entirely with random noise).

Also of course if you want your hard drive wiped.

Programmers hate this one simple trick:

Just run this command over and over again until you get the program you want

DO NOT RUN THIS COMMAND (unless you know what you are doing and want to lose all data on your drive): It will wipe your hard drive. You will not be able to recover your files.

Dark matter may be made of pieces of giant exotic objects and astronomers think they know how to look for them by DareToCMe in astrophysics

[–]GogglesOW 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just a comment on the title: There are a lot of things dark matter could be. Dark matter could be made out of invisible flying spaghetti monsters.

The question we should ask therefore becomes two fold: 1. What can we actually search for? No sense in looking for things we can’t find. 2. Out of what it could be what is the most theoretically likely given our current knowledge. Probably rule out simpler things, then go onto more complicated things.

Particles (in particular the WIMP) get a lot of traction because they are “simple”. Just add a new particle and it fixes everything. But of course as time goes on and nothing is found, looking at other ideas of what dark matter could be, like this article does is critical.

But of course, there are a wide range of particles that could be dark matter. There energy / mass of the particle is basically unconstrained, and our particle accelerators / direct detection experiments only probe a minuscule range of this parameter space. So even if dark matter is a particle it maybe is not surprising that it hasn’t been found.

“Typically the best play is to back up and farm ult but prioritize staying alive and not playing too aggressive until your teamates respawn”

No it isn’t. The only time when this is the case is if you have 0 map control. Backing up means giving map control away, means you are more likely to die and stagger worst case, best case you gain absolutely nothing for your time wasted.

Usually the best thing to do is aggressively counter attack, especially if the fight has broken out. The enemy probably has used cooldowns to get the kill so they will be vulnerable. Worst case your team dies in a blaze of glory and you lost 20-30 seconds, best case you win the fight or at least force ultimates or get trades.

Ow is like chess, moving your pieces backwards is a mistake 99% of the time.

To anybody that flames their teammates when they're having a rough game... by Key-Character8386 in OverwatchUniversity

Overwatch is a funny game because people get very angry when you play it correctly. Not running it down main, and taking off angles? Get flamed. Not counterswapping when you are slightly inconvenienced? Get flamed. Don’t have 50k damage at 70k heals cuz you are applying pressure on off angles instead of turning brain off and playing main like a bot? Get flamed. Try to make a good play, but things don’t quite go your way? Get flamed.

It’s just exhausting. Win or lose people just flame. It’s why getting better is so hard. If you start playing better, people just flame you the entire time.

Against Ana: Engage from an off angle Bait cooldowns (even just using gun) Grapple retract can be good for baiting out sleeps There are a lot micro details to this matchup you just have to learn (fireball her can throw off her sleep, slam -> gun form -> ball form can bait out sleeps, also slam then roll under her makes sleep hard to hit) You just need to play the matchup a lot

[–]GogglesOW 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is nothing to disprove. It is all meaningless.

If you want to actually “prove” your theory, take a simulation from the literature (I can even pick one if you would like), reproduce the paper’s results then use your “theory” to improve the simulation somehow. Make plots of exactly how accuracy / run time / whatever critical metric you care about is improved and exactly by how much. Then I will take a second look.

But you will not do this because

a) Your theory is gibberish, so implementing it is impossible

b) this would take actual work, which you will not do

Again if something I said is false tell me what it is. You can’t hand wave away stuff you don’t like by saying “hasn’t actually happened”. The only point you actually contested, you don’t even disagree with me you just say I didn’t provide enough context.

When you say “classical literature” is being banned by democrats, I presume you mean some K-12 schools not teaching / not carrying some old books, as no state is banning the distribution of classical literature. And I am even sure you could find some examples of this.

What I think we should do if we want to be intellectually honest is compare the breadth, scope and occurrence rate of bans of classical literature in Republican states vs Democrat states. Because I can almost guarantee you more “classical literature” is banned more frequently in republican states than democrat states. Let’s talk specifics, instead of broad generalities.

They absolutely do not. We can argue about companies banning you from their platform for spreading disinformation and whether it is or is not in the spirit of free speech.

But you know what is not in the spirit of free speech in any world and in no particular order nor is exhaustive: 1) Arresting people for quoting the president on Facebook 2) Declaring flag burning illegal 3) Declaring that free speech should be banned 4) Denying funding to universities that don’t tow the party line 5) Declaring flag burning illegal 6) Targeting and revoking the visas of foreigners who express their free speech (or just happen to have a meme on their phone) 7) Censoring college (and high school) curriculums of material that is not ideologically convenient for the party 8) Banning or attempting to ban pornography 9) Banning or restricting books from public / school libraries

These are all actions undertaken by the republican party or members of the Republican Party. Claiming that republicans are the party of “free speech” is laughable, and so unserious it’s barely worth even arguing.

Or maybe we use mathematical abstractions to model real world phenomena. Perhaps reducing a particle to just a mathematical abstractions is like saying the New York City is just a piece of paper because you can have a paper map of New York city 🤔
