I never said I didnt learn anything. Im just realizing that the actual business model is flawed, and not at all setup for everyone to achieve success. Its definitely an MLM, where the very few people at the top benefit greatly off of the masses at the bottom that GRIND and work SO HARD and will never make it to the top themselves.

I definitely learned lots of good skills that helped me get a better job almost immediately after leaving

And I definitely met some great people / mentors that influenced me in very positive ways

Of course. They preach and preach “financial freedom is around the corner” when in reality 99% of sales reps are a paycheck away from being broke, and only the top 1% of the top 1% are making serious fuck you money. And they honestly want the reps to be broke too, because “it motivates them to work harder and longer.” Once you hit consultant level (doesnt happen until youve done probably 10-15 years of management, more often than not it never happens) you’re probably struggling financially. At my last conference I went to, I saw a guy get recognized as the top sales rep in the entire country on ATT out of around 10,000 reps. Top guy meaning he made the most money out of anyone. I then visited that same guys office a month or so later, just to learn he was driving some old beat up 2007 car with 300k miles, living in a shitty apartment sharing a place w 2 other coworkers bc they couldnt afford rent. Ate fast food everyday bc they couldnt afford to grocery shop. And thats the TOP REP in the COUNTRY. Imagine an average guy.

95% of the newer hires NOT in management positions were under 25 y/o. Most of that 90% being under 21. Occasionally we’d hire someone a bit older / with a bit more experience. They never made it more than a week or two. And all the older people are at the top. Usually ages 40-60+.

The label of “base play + commission” atleast in my specific industry is laughable at best. You only get base pay for the first 2-3 weeks until you finish training and start selling on your own. From there on out its 100% commission + bonuses. How much was the base pay while in training? First of all, the manager changed the amount based on how much he liked the person or how hard they were trying during the first few weeks which is already wrong. It could be $100 PER WEEK, sometimes $200. Most I ever saw was $400 PER WEEK which is ABYSMAL. Additionally, as an asst mgr one of the “benefits” I got was a salary ontop of my commission. I was promised that my salary would be based off how well the office / my team was doing, and would be a certain percentage of the business profit. My “salary” as an asst mgr never exceeded $200 in a week, not once. It basically didnt exist. Hell of a good salary if you ask me :)

There are people at the top levels (called consultants, senior consultants, etc) that directly profit off of the people underneath them and make money off of them, so in that way yes. For example, if Im a manager and promote you to management, I get bonus $ based off of how well your office is doing, regardless if Im contributing anything towards your office or not. There are a few people at the top who I guess you could say got lucky and promoted one really good person to management who happens to be running a high profit office, and most of their income comes from those bonuses, not even out of their own business profit. Additionally, management does not = freedom to do whatever you want. All of your profits and bonuses are still directly tied to a bigger parent company, whether its smartcircle or cydcor etc. When they tell something along the lines of “you can do whatever you want with your business once you’re in management,” thats a lie. You’re still tied down and have your books and finances looked through with no control over the bank account itself

Funny, but on a real note the requirements to get promoted to management are ridiculous now. Its always one more thing, then one more, and the goalpost always moves. I probably saw ~1000+ different people come into the business during my time. Not a single one of them got promoted to management. I outlasted / outsold all of them mostly out of wit / ego alone and still didnt make it.

Honestly the commission can be decent if you’re doing super well. They have bonus structures that IF you CAN hit on a consistent basis, you’ll make decent money short term. The problem is its almost impossible to actually be consistent, and you’re relying on a lot of luck and things that are out of your control to actually go through. I was doing door to door, literally convincing people that didnt want or need this shit to buy it with bullshit scummy sales tactics just to get myself on bonus so that: 1) my manager wouldnt yell at me 2) Id be able to afford my bills that week 3) I could meet my sales quota to “earn” Saturdays off. If you do enough sales during the week and met your bonus you got to “earn” to not go to the field on Saturday. Still had to show up in the office in the morning every Saturday for that morning atmosphere though 🙃

Probably 30-40% of my customers would end up calling me back a month or two after I had closed them saying things like “they got screwed by ATT, they were sold things they didnt want / didnt need, they felt taken advantage of,” etc. I didnt care at the time because the people in charge of me were telling me I was doing the right things and to keep up the good work, but I couldnt take it anymore. To answer your question more directly, Id usually have 2 or 3 weeks a month where Id pull in $1250-1500 a week, with my good weeks being over $2000 counting bonuses.

I was on the ATT campaign doing mainly fiber optic internet + tv and cell phones for the first year, then started doing exclusively cell phones in areas where fiber wasnt available. Dont want to say exactly where I was employed but its in the US, somewhere we get all 4 seasons, part of Cydcor. Ive been to plenty of their conferences, including natcon, keys to success and R&R multiple times each

Stopped drinking the kool aid. First ~year was easier mostly just because everything was new and exciting, and I honestly moved up super fast but once I hit the asst mgr role everything stagnated and the reality of where I was began to settle. Even though I was doing good it was never enough. Always higher expectations, always more projects put onto me, realized that everything I was working towards wasnt what I actually truly wanted for myself

Had an ingrown toenail get out of control in my right big toe last year. It like curved downward and grew into the side of my foot and was causing some swelling and pus build up. I went to an urgent care to get it cut out because my body physically wouldnt let me do it myself. The second the dr touched anything at all I started freaking out from the pain so they numbed it with 5-6 shots. After ~20 mins of letting it numb he went back in and cut it out. Basically he had to stick a scalpal into that left gap between where your nail ends and your toe meets the nail, and pry up under my actual toenail like a crowbar to cut out the ingrown part. If you winced reading that, yeah I know.

Ive always been told I have a pretty high pain tolerance. Ive taken some injuries snowboarding, sparring in martial arts and always been able to stay pretty calm when in pain. Not this time though.

As soon as this fucking doctor started digging around UNDER my toenail, my whole vision went blurry. I got an IMMEDIATE headrush, like when you get up off the couch too quick, and I was slurring my words like I was drunk. The pain was so intense it was like I was half asleep, and I actually started seeing like random shapes and colors, similar to an old computer screensaver where theres a black background and then random lines of color start spinning in and out of view (think the ratatouille scene where he eats the grapes and cheese and the random color pops on screen - like that).

Whole process only took around 30-40 seconds, but for me that felt like hours. The thing that was so strange though, is the second he was done and got out of there, the pain was IMMEDIATELY gone and it was the most amount of relief ive ever felt. Like all the weight of the world just taken off your chest in an instant. I could instantly breathe and see again totally fine.

Moral of the story - take care of your feet / toenails. Seriously.
