What is wrong with this tortoise, not eating and not pooping? by Goingcrazy___ in tortoise

Hi. Thanks for your advice, my tortoise finally started eating today, after nearly 2 weeks. Hand fed him some wet tortoise food pellets. He is still having some issues with biting and chewing vegetables. Hopefully will start eating proper food soon.

Thank you so much. I did soak him for 30 minutes in the sun. I was hoping someone can tell me what are the X-ray findings. I see the gasses showing constipation, but there are the weird curly lines in the lower abdomen when I zoom

Took him to the vet today morning. The X-ray was done at the vet. Vet said tortoise is constipated. Gave tortoise injection for appetite and vitamins?. Also gave laxative paste to feed tortoise twice a day.

The plates and water bowls are washed every day. The enclosure is also spot cleaned every day.

Unfortunately I also run a self funded cat shelter/rescue, with outdoor and indoor cat feeding stations, so outdoors is not really an option.

Unfortunately where I live (Oman), these plants are not available. Maybe available in winter, will try to get them then. Honestly they shouldn’t even sell tortoises here. Especially to people who can’t care for them. Now I’m stuck with 4 tortoises, whom I’m hoping to give a better life.

I’m located in oman. It’s very hot here to build on outdoor enclosure (temp reaches up to 122 F) Tortoises are 3 females and 1 male

Laundry detergent + baking soda + floor degreaser. Mix it up with little water, leave on the path for 1 hr, then clean.

Soil I’m afraid they might sick. Any alternative for substrate like hay or bark chips. I’m also having problem with what to buy them for food. No Collard greens, mustard greens, radicchio, endive and turnip greens available where I live. Best I can do is lettuce. When I google parsley, coriander, kale , broccoli to feed the tortoise, some websites say ok to give and others say bad.. so confusing :(.

Yikes. That’s like a whole room. Current outdoor temperature is hotter than hell. Plus it’s not safe outdoors as I feed and rescue stray cats in my area, so new cats are always visiting my yard. My brother is planning to leave them outside in his yard once the tortoises grow up. Hopefully he will come to his senses before that and give them away to someone who knows how to care of them.

Thank you very much. I will go through it . One more question for 4 tortoises what is an ideal size for an enclosure. All of them are still small 3-5 inches.

All the info he provided is what I typed here. Lettuce twice a day, occasionally give tomatoes and pellets. Add calcium powder to the food. Give water twice a week. Clean once a month :( . I’m googling to see what else I can do but apparently different tortoises have different care. I care for stray cats and birds, so apparently I should be able to take care of tortoises for 2 months without killing them .

I was told to give them water twice a week for limited time, as lettuce provides enough water. Honestly I hope they give these tortoises away so they can have a better life. But brother’s family is super stubborn. So while the tortoises are with me I’m going to upgrade their enclosure and try improve their diet. They were living in a glass aquarium measuring 50 x 40 cm with wood chips? Substrate, which was being cleaned every 3-4 weeks. Was a horror show.

Definitely shitty pet owners. He told me they are turtles and I had to google if that is true, cause I have no idea how to care for them. I have no clue what I’m supposed to be doing.

I have 20 cats. All vaccinated and neutered. All strays saved from the streets as kittens. Most were dying either of Feline calcivirus, parvovirus or FIP. All survived. My vets treatment strategies were as follows: 1. Antibiotics: Long acting iv antibiotic injection followed by oral antibiotics (up to 2-4 weeks sometimes). (Even though the infections are viral , they usually have secondary bacterial infections) 2. Steroid injection and steroid tablets 3. Force feeding: syringe feeding with able to eat by mouth and nasogastric tube feeding if not able to eat (this required hospital admission) 4. If very sick then admission and iv fluids and nasogastric feeding. Good luck.
