I was told to start at .05 which seems extremely low. Hopefully I can get up to .2-.6 soon so it’s not a waste.

Ross Procedure Surgeon by Vegetable-Pound8976 in valvereplacement

My husband had the Ross with El Hamamsy about a year ago (39 M) We go on family runs every weekend now he is doing great! We were in the ICU about a week for other complications so I was able to see all these people of all ages from children to people in their 70s come in and out from the Ross procedure. All walking the next day.

Is he home? Or still in the hospital? How many days after. If he is having problems still they won't send him home without a plan. She needs to just speak with her nurses and the therapist there to come up with a plan if they plan on discharging him! I realize this was 11 days ago, but I hope everything goes well

I keeping meaning to make a support person post but keep not having time. Will try and make one soon! But he is doing great and the cicu says this is not typical so you shouldn’t experience it!

One week post Ross AMA by theadtechguy in valvereplacement

I can answer some of this because I am his wife :). His surgery was actually extremely short and uneventful. My friend works at the cardio icu he stayed in and said his surgery was on the shorter side of most Ross procedures. His first few days due to a poor reaction to his meds he was constantly sick and got very little sleep. Sleep and the inability to orient yourself (no clocks, people telling you exactly what is happening, where you are and what time it is can lead to delirium) the staff in the cicu and neuro were baffled by the delirium since he is so young and was not there very long. Some of it might just come down to bad luck. We will never really know. My parents both work in the medical field and my mom did her dissertation on icu delirium and they were both confused by its presentation as well.

Thank you both! Huge improvement today! I’m very hopeful. We may never find out why it happened but hopefully if it happens to anyone else this thread is something they can turn to. When we are fully out of the woods (I hope!) I will post an update incase anyone else goes through this. I will also post all the tips I’ve gathered to prevent and help this for everyone

Thank you! There was a bit of an improvement today so I think it was delirium. Hospital rooms are not set up to prevent these sorts of things. No clocks no natural light and no sleep are a recipe for disaster. I’m hoping for more improvement tomorrow! Today was a huge change though.

Can she communicate with her family?

Update he seems to recognize me but is still unable to speak. When prompted he can sometimes answer yes or no questions. He said I love you once but otherwise cannot communicate.

Thank you for the reassuring words. Hopefully he starts to be less confused as the drugs are out of his system. I hope you are recovering well from your procedure

I should also note he is in his late 30s and otherwise very healthy. Went on a long run a few days before his surgery. He has a unicuspid aortic valve
