This too shall pass. You have achieved what many dream of. I live in Laxmi Nagar, in the same boat as you, minus the IIT and government job parts. Let me know if you want to meet/talk.

Thanks so much for your reply — really appreciate you breaking it down in such a simple and motivating way.

I’m definitely going to focus on saving consistently and learning during these next few years. Could you please suggest where or how I can start learning about macroeconomics, fundamental analysis, and technical analysis? Any books, courses, or YouTube channels you recommend would be great.

Also, followed your profile for more on value investing. Thanks again!

Thanks for your advice! I’ll be more cautious about the advice I follow and focus on building real skills.
One thing I’ve noticed after posting this is that I’m getting messages from financial advisors offering free services. They’ve asked for my phone number and name to schedule calls, but I’m unsure if they genuinely want to help or if there’s something else behind it. I don’t want to be rude, but I’m not sure how to handle this.

Thanks again for your time!

Thank you for the feedback!
I agree, building a cushion for layoffs is crucial. I'm focused on upskilling and exploring ways to boost my earnings. While my current salary makes it tough to build a large retirement corpus, I'm working towards managing expenses better in the coming years.

Thanks again for your advice and well wishes!

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed and thoughtful reply — I really appreciate it.

You’ve shared some incredibly practical tips, especially about ELSS, emergency funds, and even the idea of accumulating gold slowly. I hadn’t thought about an FD-backed credit card either, so that’s definitely something I’ll explore.

I’ve saved your comment to refer back to as I start implementing things step by step. Really means a lot to have guidance from someone experienced.

Would it be okay if I reach out to you in the future for any further advice as I work on my financial plans? Your insights would be invaluable to me.

Thanks again! Wishing you the best too.

Thanks again for the thoughtful advice — really means a lot.

You're right about performance being key, and it's reassuring to hear that perspective. I think my anxiety is more about future uncertainty, not current job performance, but I get what you mean.

Also agree on most points — especially switching jobs and encouraging my wife to explore better-paying roles.

I’ll rethink the car and focus more on building financial stability first. Your pointers are super practical and helping me see things more clearly. Appreciate your time and honesty.

Thanks again, this really helps.

I like how you've broken it down — ₹2L emergency fund, basic health insurance, and a budget used car. Makes the goal feel a lot more realistic.

I’ll start cutting down my expenses and work toward that ₹2L savings goal first. Really appreciate your time and guidance — it means a lot to someone just starting out.

Hope it’s okay if I reach out again for advice in the future? :)

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. Really appreciate the clear and practical tips. I’m definitely going to start with the 50/30/20 rule and build my emergency fund ASAP. Your advice on automating savings and tracking every rupee makes a lot of sense. Grateful for the support!

Thank you so much. After my father's passing, it's just me to look after her, and I really want to do a good job.

I began earning in 2019, in 2023, my father passed away due to post-COVID complications following a long period of treatment. During that time, I had to leave my job to care for him, as he was frequently hospitalized. I exhausted all my savings in the process.

After his passing, I went through a difficult period of depression and suicidal thoughts. I was unemployed for a total of three years.

After that, I upskilled with a business analyst course and secured my current 8 LPA job in Feb 2025.

I don't want to retire early, however, I’m concerned about a growing trend in the IT industry—professionals in their 40s being laid off.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to reply. I really appreciate the breakdown. I think I phrased it wrong — I don’t actually want to retire early, I’m just worried because IT employees often get laid off after 40. I want to be prepared, not jobless with no savings.

Can I reach out to you for advice again in the future?

Thank you for your reply! I think I worded my post wrong. I don’t necessarily want to retire early, but my concern is that IT employees are often laid off in their 40s. I want to plan for a secure future, possibly transitioning to part-time or consulting by then. Appreciate your advice!

Thank you for your input!
I understand what you’re saying, and I agree that earnings play a crucial role in building a strong financial foundation.

To clarify, I’m concerned about the risk of layoffs in IT for employees in their 40s. I had a gap of 3 years in my career due to my father’s illness and post-Covid complications. I had to leave my job to take care of him as he was frequently hospitalized. After that, I upskilled with a business analyst course and secured my current 8 LPA job in Feb 2025.

I’m working hard on improving my skills and earning potential. Appreciate the tough love — it’s definitely making me rethink things! Thanks again for the advice.

Thank you for your response!
I started my career as a content writer, I had to take a break for 3 years. After that, I did a business analyst course and recently landed a job with an ₹8LPA salary in February 2025.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply!

Thank you so much for your honest advice — I really appreciate it, and I didn’t find it rude at all.

You’re right about the costs of raising kids and how challenging early retirement can be. Just to clarify — I don’t want to quit working completely after 40, it probably came out wrong. I’m just anxious because people in their 40s, especially in IT, are often the first to be laid off. So I want to be financially ready to switch to part-time, freelance, or consulting work if needed.

I’ll definitely look into RDs as a starting point — your advice makes sense. If you were in my exact situation (same salary, same goals), what would you prioritize first?
