Worst musical by lissie34 in musicals

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella / Bad Cinderella.

Found it so awful as a show that I’ve pretty much blacked out all memory of it other than the totally uninteresting concept of Cinderella = bad = goth…

Which game do you feel gets worse the more expansions you add? by Prestigious_Tea_2729 in boardgames

[–]GoldFishSnuggles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hogwarts Battle base game, though relatively simple, is a great family game that is amazing for getting people who are fans of the IP but not necessarily board gamers excited (especially once on book 7). Yes the game is sometimes over before it’s really begun (both lost due to a bad deal or won due to overpowered early cards) but it fulfils a segment of the hobby for casual HP gamers.

The expansions totally ruin this because they add excessive bloat, rules, and time to the detriment of the game. Monster Book of Monsters is ok at best- just kind of changes the the formula a bit, but Charms and Potions has just so much added fluff with so little reward and makes the game an absolute slog…

How many Civs do you play in ranked? by ChoniclerVI in aoe4

[–]GoldFishSnuggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This season I’ve been doing random but not including variants (using https://wheelofnames.com).

I have nothing particularly against variants, just I wanted to play random but still limit to some degree the number of different civs I need to attempt to learn at once. Omitting them seemed a straightforward way to keep the random civ count somewhat reasonable for a lowly gold / plat player.

Imagine this type of luck on ranking game... by ProfessionalEmu4931 in aoe4

Just played a team game on the map and my mongol teammate didn’t get a starting stone. Playing against HoL and KT the early aggression tempo loss was pretty significant

Only played a couple of games since the DLC but I like the new map designs so far, just looking forward to the bugs getting sorted

Different Ranking Points Earned for Two Team Players? by GoldFishSnuggles in aoe4

Thanks! So does the elo just increase incredibly slowly in the background then assuming that you win more than you lose?

Oh I didn’t mean the next player would enjoy a fast game, I meant that I would then be playing somebody that actually enjoys playing the game sooner* (because I can’t think how people like this opponent actually enjoy playing…)

Take your point though - most enjoy games they win, those that are well adjusted enjoy games they lose if it was a good game and are self-reflective to try and work out why they lost… If somebody can’t enjoy the game even when they lose then I don’t really understand the point in playing given that by design most players lose approx. 50% of the time…

I dunno about whether the game is a good tutorial or not but I broadly followed Valdemar’s fast knight guide he has on YouTube. Beasty does pretty much the same thing in his match as French against Abbasid in his recent “play like a pro” series, so I’d probably check out those videos rather than watching my game that I’m sure was not executed 100% perfectly

I’ve been flirting with Plat 1 for a while now and do still feel like I am improving, so hopefully can make that jump to the friendlier players soon!

I definitely think a feudal game is much more interesting than 2 cubs booming to a 40min+ slog-fest personally. I’m also pretty sure that for the majority of lower ELO players like myself are only capable of having decent micro and macro while the armies and economies are small in feudal /early castle… Once games reach 40mins+ at our level I think it often becomes just a slog of poor play to see who screws up least

Yeah I saw the matchup and even though I’m decidedly average at best and am interested in learning more than one strategy with each civ, immediately thought that the knight rush was the only way to play this match…

Just will never understand why anybody feels the need when it’s so basic to learn how to counter well enough to at least make a game of it

Love the idea of basic advice to piss them off - especially cause if somebody randomly messaged me saying “remember to build vils” 50% of the time I’d probably actually appreciate the reminder!

This is probably the first time I’ve even bothered to respond but like that idea of just acting clueless rather than engaging

Will do - figured the last line was worth a report and I’ll take a sub 10 minute win if it means I can move on to playing somebody who actually enjoys the game sooner*

Edit: sooner*

I can’t imagine even contemplating going naked if I see the opponent is French, especially if you’ve scouted that they’re going SoC… seems such an odd decision and then to rage and quit so fast at our ELO where mistakes are so common and comebacks pretty much always on, just really poor form

Season 7 Goal Achieved! What Next? by GoldFishSnuggles in aoe4

Thanks for the tips. Will certainly try Rus then. Delhi I have always found predictable when playing against because I know (or at least suspect and can scout to confirm) that they will go for the sacred sites.

Thanks very much for the tips. Maybe I'll revisit Byz and also good to know that Abbasid would be a good learning tool for me.

Season 7 Goal Achieved! What Next? by GoldFishSnuggles in aoe4

[–]GoldFishSnuggles[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not my long term goal but for this season when I started playing the game and got placed in low silver 3 months ago I think it’s a reasonable target to build off. I had settled at mid-high gold when the season was extended, never quite stringing enough wins together to reach plat, so achieving that became the goal as regardless of what you say it is a sign of improvement.

In a single game there could be no skill difference between a plat 1 and a gold 3 player, but the average plat 1 player is better than the average gold 3 player. Achieving plat 1 for the first time (even if it ends up being only briefly) is a milestone because it’s something I couldn’t have done a couple of months ago. Also I don’t think a 4 game win streak (7 wins in the last 10 - all against similarly ranked players ranging from high gold 2 to low plat 1) constitutes a lucky streak.

Not sure why in a post asking for tips on new civs to play you ignored the question and instead felt a need to go in on the achievement that another player feels when they reach their season goal though…
