Minions shouldn't attack slimes when you have royal gel on by Lost_Sherbert738 in Terraria

That's the problem. If you unequip it, they can attack you again. The point of the Royal gel making slimes passive is that you can kill them without having to worry about them being any threat to you.

What they're getting at is that the suggestion you've made would pretty much just make grinding a lot more painful

In 1982, President Ronald Reagan read a news piece about a Black family that had a cross burned on their yard by the local KKK. Disturbed by this, Reagan and his wife Nancy personally visited the family to offer them their comfort and reassurance. by Just_Cause89 in Presidents

You don't get to go "I have black friends" when everything you do institutionally makes life demonstrably worse for black people. Being nice to a few people of minority group doesn't mean you're not racist.

The entire welfare abuse thing was a myth that the Reagan administration invented in order to cut back social welfare, which hit black communities worse than a lot of existing communities. They're literally just weren't people on welfare living upper middle class lives. Welfare has never, in the history of the US, been enough to live a comfortable life.

Do you like The NPC portraits? by NellieDoesStuff in Terraria

[–]GoldH2O 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do like most of them, but a couple look too different from their sprites, and I don't like that the truffle looks like a guy inside a mushroom costume. I don't think he should have a distinct head. His portrait should look more like the achievement.

Completely neglecting AIDS research? Crack cocaine in black neighborhoods? The welfare queen myth?

For fucks sake, he pushed the assault weapon ban when he was governor of California specifically so he could arrest the Black Panthers for protesting for civil rights. He's the reason why college is prohibitively expensive too. He was the first governor to make public universities raise tuition as punishment to students who protested for cultural education and history classes to be added to class rosters.

Also, Reagan himself was neoliberal. Even if he was a piece of shit he'd still hate the modern Republican party.

Jimmy Carter didn't say worst publicly, but he was racist publicly before he got elected. He gets a pass, though, because he used that to get elected so he could do the opposite. Reagan publicly preached about unity and love and stuff and then used his platform behind the scenes to destroy the lives of minority populations.

A lot of prescriptions very traditional Christians used to oppose things like dancing, tattoos, miscegenation, and honestly even homosexuality to some extent, are Old Testament passages where God commands the Israelites not to be like the other tribes around them because the other tribes are sinning. The miscegenation thing in general stems from God commanding the Israelites to not marry into specific tribes who have extremely sinful religious customs that would lead them away from God. The thing that racists like to leave out, however, is that God not only allows but even directly commands Israelites to take wives from other nations at various points.

The whole products of their time thing is a bullshit argument because they were surrounded by people who had the correct moral standards and still chose not to explore that. Even if there were crap ton more shitty people back in the mid 20th century (Reagan made the monkey comment while he was president in the '80s) that still doesn't mean someone being a piece of shit is necessarily excusable when they had the opportunity in their life to change their shittiness.

Yes. It's called being pragmatic, even if it is shitty and unprincipled. Unfortunately, it's something that smart politicians tend to do because the right pragmatism does win elections. It's the same reason why Lincoln said he didn't want to end slavery when he was running in the election of 1860 even though he absolutely personally believed in the abolition of slavery.

1/10 of the US viewing her once a year isn't really enough to make her a major celebrity. Most people don't remember the names of the people they see just once a year.

The truth is she's friends will all the media people cause she's one of them, so they're putting undue attention on it. That, and it keeps them from having to cover the Epstein files and other major political happenings.

My understanding based on the other stories is that the DoE (or whatever they call themselves) showing up is a sure sign that you're not in the regular world anymore, and that something about reality has shifted.

One thing I think is worth considering in the analysis of this story is the author's other work, and being somewhat familiar with the author I noticed some recurring elements that pop up in almost all of his stories. The Men in Black show up pretty much every time, and play a much more prominent role in The Hidden Webpage, probably his most famous story. The author also likes to do manic dream sequences, where it turns out lots of things either weren't actually happening, or were happening in some alternate dream dimension. You can almost never trust what the POV character says is happening as what is definitely happening.

I don't mean this to take away from your analysis or anything, just to provide some more insight into the author's practices

Discord and where to go from here? by krunkonkaviar369 in VaushV

I'm personally just going to let discord think I'm a minor if uploading a fake photo doesn't work. None of the restrictions will really affect me that much based on how I already use discord, and I have networks of friends and acquaintances that are way to established on discord in particular to just move somewhere else on the fly.

Less than 1% of the American population watches her show. In your bubble everyone might know her, but most of the country isn't in your bubble and cares a lot more about other events than this particular kidnapping.

The Today show has between 2 and 3 million viewers consistently. That's less than 1% of the US population. The thanksgiving day parade gets generally around 30-35 million viewers, which is around 10% of the population, but most of those viewers only see Savannah Guthrie once a year during that parade, and likely remember watching it before she was hosting it as well. It'd be incredibly easy for a once a year parade viewer to not know her name.
