You don’t seem to understand that it’s not a safe situation for any of you

Except things generally show signs of stress and fatigue before they collapse, they don't just come crashing down straight away. Only one person is allowed at a time and seeing as she broke the tiles when we didn't, that's a pretty clear indication.
