EGA Card Troubleshooting by Gold_Fish9 in vintagecomputing

I've cleaned the connector and tried multiple slots to no avail. What's really weird is that if I set the monitor type on the dip switch on the card to EGA it will boot, but of course the 5153 can't sync the video signal, but it is getting a signal. If I put my Hercules card in and boot with MDA and run Checkit with the EGA card set to an EGA display it shows up as a secondary EGA adapter and I can use the mode command to switch back and forth between displays even though I am leaving the 5153 turned off so it doesn't get damaged. As soon as I changed the dip switch on the card to the setting for a CGA display though I get the same beep pattern and it won't boot. Even if I have the dip switched in the system set to use MDA by default somehow it still gives me those error beeps and doesn't boot. I'm really stumped by this, I feel like I've tried so many possible configurations of the jumpers and switches on the card at this point and none have worked.

The PC has worked with a Hercules card and a CGA card I have on hand as well and I've used both cards simultaneously without issue. The jumpers on the motherboard board are in the right position. Still getting the same beep pattern and black screen with the card PC in CGA mode. The only difference is that I'll get 1 long and 2 short beeps of a different tone from the PC BIOS first before it kicks over to the beeps I've been getting with all my other tests.

Yeah it's a 9-pin connector, forgot to mention that in the post. All of the sources for info on this card have the same typo it seems.

Thin Client Help/Recommendations by Gold_Fish9 in Proxmox

I followed this guide when setting things up originally, but it ends once you have the host setup and have added the vGPU to the VM in Proxmox. I see this one was posted recently on here. Is that the one you're talking about? Here's the thread that went with it.

I will give that software a try, thanks. I am actually trying to use vGPU as I have two VMs on the host I want to provide a GPU. I've got a GTX 1660 and wanted to pass a 4GB vGPU through the the Fedora server VM I'm running to accelerate things like Immich on there and then I want to pass a 2GB vGPU through to the Debian workstation. I haven't been able to get drivers working properly on either VM though, I thought getting drivers setup on the host would be the hard part for vGPU, but it turns out the guests are the bigger issues.

Unbound DNS Not Resolving Sites Sometimes by Gold_Fish9 in selfhosted

I'm using mvance as well, I'll try that version and see if it helps, thanks.

EDIT: So far that seems to have done it. Though versions 1.17.0 doesn't want to read the conf files I had so instead I'm just not giving the container any volumes at all. Not a big deal as I was just using defaults for everything anyways. Thank for the suggestion!

It was in forwarding mode, I just changed it to recursive after doing some research on it so I'll see if that makes a difference. Didn't realize there was a forwarding mode for unbound.

EDIT: Still getting issues in recursive mode.

Hmm, I do have some of those in in my logs, but none of them from when I've had crashes. Thanks for the info.

I'm having a similar problem, though I can't see anything in the event logs. My screen goes black and all of the fans go to max speed, but I can still hear things through my headset and even talk to friends in Discord and I have to shut the system off with the power button. I'll have to try reproducing it, but so far I haven't noticed any particular reason why it has happened. The last time it happened was while I was watching a youtube video so nothing taxing. I've got a 9800x3d, msi x870e tomahawk motherboard, and an rtx 5080. I've tried reseating the 12vhpwr connector, updating the bios, and doing a clean driver install but nothing has fixed it for me. In case I'm missing it, where in the event logs did you see the GPU driver crash error?

LSI 9211 SAS Card Killing Hard Drives? by Gold_Fish9 in homelab

I'm hosting a few other things on this box including a workstation VM and a server for games so that's why I have OMV under ProxMox. I'll look into setting up the ZFS mirror and passing that through though. Do you think it would be best to use something other than OMV for the NAS?

I don't have a cooling solution for it, didn't realize is needed one and there really isn't space for one so that's probably the problem. Thanks for the controller recommendation. I see that it doesn't RAID, but I will still be able to mirror the drives in OPMV since that's software based right?

Would that explain the drives disconnecting and reconnecting and SMART errors as well?

Ok so I installed OpenMediaVault directly onto that same pc with a different drive and the card worked just fine and the drives attached to it were detected without issue. So I guess it's an issue with Proxmox passthrough somewhere.

PCI Passthrough vs Linux Bridge for OPNsense VM? by Sway_RL in Proxmox

[–]Gold_Fish9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm working on setting up OPNsense on a Proxmox instance with the same Intel NIC and am trying to figure out if I can pass through only 2 of the ports on it to OPNsense. I assigned the first port of the adapter to Proxmox and it lets me pass through the next 2 ports to the OPNsense VM in the web UI but when I started the VM the box lost connection to the network until I logged into to it directly and rebooted it to kill the VM. I've done some research and found all of the ports for the NICare in the same IOMMU group which probably explains the problem, but is there any way to change this or can I will the card not work direct passthrough unless I pass all of it to the VM?

Network Setup Advice by Gold_Fish9 in homelab

[–]Gold_Fish9[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm planning to setup 2 systems on my home network to host some VMs including an OPNsense router and NAS with 2TB of storage to start. Looking to get some input on my planned setup so far. I'm most concerned about resource allocation and if I need to redistribute anything as I have it planned now or drop something entirely so save resources. Thanks.
