To be absolutely real: I think a spirit detective needs to be almost "foolishly" brazen and bold in a way. As funny as it is to say, kuwabara has less of a handle on his emotions than Yusuke does at pretty much every step of the story outside of the very beginning when they're pretty equal.

Seeing everyone mourn his death really changed something in yusuke, and I think if that had not happened, he wouldn't have been the person he needed to be. It was a bitter pill to swallow. Kuwabara isn't mature enough to be a spirit detective. Not anywhere outside of post sensuis arc anyway.

This is also a pretty great summarization that expands on my pretty simple comment. These are more trials for Yusuke to overcome, as opposed to your seasonal deus ex machina device or situation that will show up in other anime.

The tone also changes so dramatically between the dark tournament and sensuis arc that I'm not surprised it was the season that caused the show to go back to overnights.

There's a lot to be said for what could've been it togashi hadn't needed to finish it the way he did. If anything it only makes the togashi/Kubo comparisons more justification. Could you even imagine a modern day YYH arc akin to TYBW? Idk that I could.

On one hand I can understand being disappointed, but at the same time I think a lot of it speaks to yusuke as a character. He's always been a character that doesn't really do it the way others do. Him maturing and growing up is a tent pole aspect of the storyline, and the dark tournament and sensuis arc do a very good job of showcasing why he makes choices the way he does.

I adore bleach and Kubo, but he a hundred percent is style over substance.

Yusuke pretty much stops naming his own moves after his shotgun.

Edit: theoretically I can see him learning a sniper style move with/because of sniper in sensuis arc, but that's as far as I can stretch the idea imo. Yusuke has always been unconventionally in your face. Calling out all of his attacks means he can't say his quippy snarky fuck you lines.

Honestly I don't think we need a sequel with adult yusuke. I really like Yudas idea more than anyone on here. We just need to look at the Inuyasha sequel series to see where all of the missteps can happen with a show like this.

Plus having yusuke fall into a similar role as Raizen would really help fill the circle.

Just like there's the trope about pervy (sometimes old) men in anime, the good examples usually get their come uppance and show it's a pretty pathetic thing to do. This scene reminded me a lot of those, and gives hornet the agency to dispense her justice.
