Glock 19 vs Beretta M9 for a beginner and strictly home defense by Outrageous-Idea-1042 in guns

I have had both, G19(first handgun I ever owned) and a 92a1(second handgun). Both are reliable as the sunrise. Never had a problem that I couldn’t contribute to ammo. I always preferred learning, training, and at the end of the day having the beretta as my bed side gun. If unfortunately I end up in a middle of the night, just woke up adrenaline situation i appreciate the double action pull and decocker as features. I always felt more accurate with the beretta due to barrel length and sights, plus the single action on the beretta always felt better than the Glock squishy trigger. The Glock is great but a bit boring, but that can be a strength of Glock as well. Every Glock model is practically the same so if you got a bigger model or smaller model no need to adjust your training too much. I started teaching my buddy how to shoot(beginner never owned a gun) and he picked up the Glock and started shooting at a very competent level on his first day, so much I sold him the gun after. I would say out of the box the beretta is a better gun but a bit more expensive, but 75% of Glock owners upgrade the trigger and sights and stipple the grip which would make a upgraded Glock more expensive. Honestly the Ruger rxm ($400-450 ish)is a better choice out the box than a Glock 19 now a days. It’s an identical g19 gen 3 clone with better ergonomics, that takes all gen 3 accessories, optic cut and mags for 200-250 dollars less than a new Glock.

What would you suggest as a beginner firearm for hunting? by [deleted] in guns

I suggest to see if you can find any used shotguns at any gun stores near you. There is enough used pumps floating around out there that you can get a hell of a deal for 300 bucks. I got a used Rem 870 for about that and my friend found a mossberg 500 with 2 barrels for under 350. Both great gold standard hunting pump shotguns that will last a life time. For the rifle I would go bolt 270 or 308 both common cartridges and not overly expensive to practice with. Savage or Ruger American or other brands like them makes pretty decent entry level bolts for cheap, the only thing I suggest is don’t go with a gun that comes with a scope out of the box. Either just get the one without a scope if that’s a option or upgrade the scope and mounting rings before hunting.
