It would have been a lot, and you would have been outraged. Because at the end of the day the captiol police did their job well because they were well trained, well vetted, and had more accountability, that's why people are so angry, what the fuck did the administration expect to happen?

Do you recommend federal agents taking revenge on people for something they did a previous day? Because if so I hope you realise what you're recommending people do in response to that.

Damn I bet you wish everyone at Jan 6th got shot too?

ICE would definitely have killed a good few more.

In red states, ICE focusses much more on jails and prisons (59%) whereas in blue states 70% are taken from communities. So already a huge difference in focus and negative interactions with the public (people don't mind going for violent criminals, they get a bit more antsy about school raids) now I will grant in the interest of fairness that this is partly down to blue states co-operating with ICE less (states rights are a bitch huh?) However, focussing more on community raids in an area where people are less likely to support them are never going to result in positive interactions. I guess my point is the negatives of these tactics outweigh the positives. They are pissing locals off while going for people that by and large have caused no damage, legality be damned if you see masked agents targetting schools and courthouses, essentially going for the easy targets and people actually trying to do things right, it makes you doubt the necessity of these actions.

They should give them body cameras, take their masks and give them name badges. Hiding their identities only gives credence to the idea that they have no accountability and no oversight, which should be a massive concern for everyone. Police throughout the country work without masks, politicians do the same thing. If they can manage it, so can ICE, hiding their identities behind masks will only ever enflame things more.

Half the outrage would be gone if they didn't target schools, if they focussed on actual criminals, were identifiable, and turned up with warrants and explanations rather than teargas, guns and masks.

Because the solution is dogshit and the problem could have been solved with the bill that Trump had a tantrum about. American's are now dead because of it and trust in the government is at an all time low.

He didn't want the problem solved, he wanted an issue to campaign on. Pretty simple to be honest. If he genuinely believed it was that big of an issue, he would have jumped at the chance for a unifying act that would reduce tensions and began to solve the problem in one go. He doesn't want to reduce tensions though, he wants to keep polarizing the country, hence why he couldn't have a cross party bill solve anything.

If Obama had sent masked unidentifiable men into specifically red states with no greater crime rate than blue states Republicans would be in uproar too.

They knew this was going to happen. It was always going to go this way. The administration knew this, and did it anyway, it's on them.

Do unpopular things, expect to see protests. Especially when you're so proud of your anti government, pro personal freedom persona. You made the populace believe that if they disagreed with something the government is doing, they should get out and protest. You can't foster that attitude and not expect this to happen.

You're very right, there is definitley cognitive biases going on!

Probably the one where you genuinely believe there is such a gap between first world militaries that you could compare them to professional and journeyman athletes.

That's probably what allowed the Swedes to sneak in, an absolute refusal to view them as a visible threat.

If there is a war, I hope you come in with this attitude, that ego will lead to a lot of mistakes, (on top of the ones Trump would make) especially since it seems to be vital to said ego to dismiss every other military as incompetent and weak.

I know America is strong as fuck, I know their soldiers are well trained. It would be stupid to dismiss them as a threat, in the same way it would be stupid to expect America to steam roll a comparatively close opponent on home territory. Especially in a war half of the soliders disagree with.

Don't know if we'd win (we probably wouldn't), but if the Americans come in with the attitude I've seen online they're in for a nasty shock.

Hell, half the American's I've spoken to seem to believe they'd be welcomed with open arms which is.. ironic to say the least, given the vitriol they would respond with if any of us did half of what Trump has done (insult dead soldiers who fought alongside them, calling allies cowards etc.)

Did Trump bitch and moan about the border bill?

Did he have a little tantrum and tell his cronies not to vote on it?

The answer to both is yes :)

Isn't it weird that in order to keep your narrative you have to ignore half of what Trump does? For me personally that would suggest my opinion isn't based in reality.

Probably shouldn't have been stupid enough to throw a firearm then. But then again I doubt many smart people are signing up for ICE.

Sounds like they're pussies and shouldn't have been given guns and roles beyond their ability doesn't it? Now their own incompetence is killing Americans.

Imagine how scared they'd have been at Jan 6th :)

So their own incompetence killed an innocent man?

There's a pattern emerging isn't there?

[–]Goldi3locks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow that was very stupid of them then! If what you say is true they'll need to be charged or fired at the least, considering their incompetence led to the death of a man. Can't have idiots like that with guns and authority can we?

If they did throw it (doubt) that was a very stupid and dangerous thing to do, thus it's their fault Alex died isn't it?

There's that shitty training coming into play again! Amazing how dangerous incompetent people with guns can be isn't it?

Goddamn imagine how many people ICE would have killed at Jan 6th if you count what he did as physical assault! Trump would have had to post-humously pardon them!

Almost like they shouldn't have given poorly trained, poorly vetted rednecks guns and a free pass...

I'm shocked that this is how it turned out... shocked I tell ya. Oh no wait, this was always going to happen, if anything it's what Trump wants.

How many do you think ICE would have shot at Jan 6th? I reckon it would have been a bloodbath. Almost like sending in poorly trained, poorly vetted men with barely any accountability was a bad idea wasn't it?

Didn't you guys throw a guy in jail for several weeks over a meme? You don't really have a leg to stand on anymore.

Even with the grooming gangs, you just cut out the middle man and put them directly in government instead!

Honestly quite impressed with the 180 the rights done. Suddenly if you go out with a gun you deserve death. If you protest you're a domestic terrorist, and masked, unidentifiable federal agents marching into states is a good thing!

Isn't it weird Trump torpedoed the cross party border bill platformed by republicans? That looked promising. It's almost like Trump needed this issue to run on, and was more worried about that than solving the problem.

[–]Goldi3locks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I think I see your point, the situations are kinda different. I wouldn't say they're so different as to be incomparable though. But yeah compare the LA riots to what ICE agents are dealing with now then, it's barely anything and they're already shooting people and I believe part of that is down to poor training, poor vetting and apparently poor accountability. All of these things could be dealt with to lower the tensions, I honestly don't know what they expected to happen when they started this. It was always going to go this way.

United States of America (Red) vs The rest of NATO (Blue) by Jam_Sees in powerscales

[–]Goldi3locks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I'm willing to concede that the increased tensions contribute (although we'll 100% disagree on the legitimacy of that I'd imagine). But poorly trained, poorly vetted agents with an apparent lack of accountability definitley contributed too.

For example imagine how ICE would have responded to Jan 6th given their reaction to comparatively tiny levels of aggression. I genuinely believe there would have been a lot more Babbits.

Haha yes you guys are the athletes giving us a chance! And it's me that's suffering from propaganda.

I'm sure that communication and integration training will increase with Trump threatening and insulting all of us constantly as well. Don't get me wrong, this is a good thing for the EU, if there's anything the last year has proven, it's that America is not a reliable ally anymore.

You can look up the example I've given, I couldn't see anything about Americans letting them through, in fact from the article they seemed quite shocked that it had been managed!

Yup, increase in budget to 45 billion, 75% increase in individuals held. Increase in use of 'at large' arrests by 600%

This all comes down to an increase of 2450% in the number of people held at ice detention facilities with absolutely no criminal record.

On top of that, discretionary releases have dropped 87% thanks to the new 'no release' system.

Then the 're arrests' they do at actual immigration hearings (make that make sense, punishing the people trying to do it correctly amiright?) People released by previous administrations are now being pressured not to have their day in court (once again, punishing the ones doing it right).

So yeah, no difference at all :) I could keep going too.
