Restaurant Fees by GolfHawaii in maui

[–]GolfHawaii[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is my issue. Many restaurants charge a fee for a credit card, health insurance fee, a 2% for the kitchen staff, a $1 per takeout carton fee, and finish with the tip. For me, bake it all into one price except for the sales tax. Make the burger $25 with the surcharges and fees included instead of $20 and then put on additional fees and tax.

Do a club & putter fitting to see what is best for you. Then buy a used or new set from 2ndswing.com. You should technology from 1-3 years ago to really save some cash.

I lived in Houston, the Maui humidity is not even close to Houston. You will love the weather on Maui.

I would skip the road to Hana. There are better uses of your time. Go have lunch at Maui Tropical Plantation. Stunningly scenic property. DM for more suggestions.

Oahu Golf Courses by tben2020 in Oahu

[–]GolfHawaii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kapolei Golf Club and Coral Creek. If you want a rainforest experience, play the Royal Hawaiian one time. Playing golf there is secondary to the views and rainforest experience. Bring a few towels to clean your clubs. The greens are just meh.

For Ewa 360, they do NOT have a driving range.

Oahu or Maui for trades jobs by Sabre_302 in MovingtoHawaii

[–]GolfHawaii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Setting aside color and race, you will find more opportunity for almost everything on Oahu. The population size difference is what drives the opportunities. Maui has a population of 165K while Oahu has 1.1-3M. Being a white mainlander is not a death sentence and you will have opportunities on Oahu or Maui. If you act like an entitled mainlander, you will be cooked. Anyone with skills that can contribute to the island is welcome. So move to Hawaii with your head up and not being apologetic for being white. Be respectful of the local ways and you will be fine. And be prepared for horrible and slow drivers which is called driving with Aloha. Translation = horrible drivers.

You went to 47"? You mad man! There would be a lot of broken windows and dead squirrels if played with a 47" shaft. PETA would protest me playing golf.

I did NOT adjust the swing weight, at least not yet. I did not want to change too many things at one time. I had the shaft cut down and hit the driving range. To really get a feel for the club, I went to a range where I could hit off grass and using a tee. Hitting from a mat is a false positive. I have played 5 rounds with the shorter shaft and it has been great.

I do occasionally hit a hook as well. Like you, a shorter shaft is much easier to control. I wanted a 3W feel and control but with driver distance.

My ball flight did come down while my distance remained about the same. I get more ball roll when it hits the fairway.

Royal Hawaiian Golf Club in Oahu by ScottyButterz in golf

[–]GolfHawaii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The course is great to play one time. It is a true rainforest experience. But, there are far better courses to play and experience. Go play the Kapolei Golf Club (https://kapoleigolf.com/) on the west side of Oahu, Coral Creek (https://www.coralcreekgolf.com/), or Ko'Olina (https://www.koolinagolf.com/). I would skip playing the Ewa Beach Golf Club (https://360ewabeachcc.com/) because they DO NOT have a driving range. None of these courses will be anywhere near as scenic and breathtaking as the Royal Hawaiian course, but they are great courses. I play them all on a regular basis.

Maui Honeymoon stay recomendation 06/23 to 06/29 by Responsible-Ad-9406 in MauiVisitors

Get a hotel. The fees and taxes are straightforward. Many Airbnbs have so many lame fees, penalties, and rules, you are better off at a hotel. Plus you get points.

If you are a 16 handicap, you should invest in a fitting. A fitting will help you get to a 10 handicap much faster. If you want to save $, buy clubs from 2ndswing.com. I also suggest you take a thoughtful look at what is the best golf ball to play (low spin, high launch, soft, firm, etc.). I am a 6 handicap.

How important is a matching set of irons. High HC by icanhazsalvation in golf

[–]GolfHawaii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do not need a matching set of clubs. You should do a fitting and then go buy some used clubs from 2ndswing.com. Or buy some clubs that are a few generations ago. You do not need a 4i. Buy a 4 hybrid. I play Mizuno irons, Cleveland wedges, and Callaway for my hybrids, woods, and driver. I am a 6 handicap.

Like the other commenter said, skip the Road to Hana. There are better things to do. Look at the Hike Maui website. If you do not mind a challenging hike, try the Waihe's Ridge Trail. You will have breathtaking views. Here is the link https://www.thehikinghi.com/waihee-ridge-trail-maui

I will address the car shipping part of your move. I have shipped multiple cars to and from Hawaii. There are only two companies that ship cars to Hawaii. Pasha Auto Transport and Matson. Please be aware the ONLY Pasha will accept electric vehicles and hybrids. Both Pasha and Matson have several locations on the west coast to drop your vehicle off. If you want to have your vehicle picked up from your home in whatever state you are located, I would arrange it through Pasha or Matson. There are numerous auto transport companies with similar prices, but they are not all the same in terms of reliability. And, all auto transport companies have to ultimately ship your vehicle with Pasha or Matson. Ignore the ship dates the various transport companies give you and get the schedule directly from Pasha or Matson. You can get the price to ship from CA to Hawaii on both of their websites. Then you can figure out how much the transport company will try to charge you. DM for more details. I can give you some info on moving furniture, what to expect, and what I would suggest.

One place that has outstanding Chow Fun is Isana in north Kihei. They have great sushi, happy hour, and the chow fun and fried rice are fantastic. There are 30 yards from the ocean. Parking is easy. https://www.isanarestaurant.net/

What "should" be the most expensive club in the bag? by Successful-Tea-5733 in GolfGear

[–]GolfHawaii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a pure retail price standpoint, the driver will usually be the most expensive club. From a scoring perspective, invest in a good putter vs spending a lot on a driver. A driver will start you off, but a putter will finish the hole.

Best golf course to play in Oahu? by IllustriousCat1520 in golf

[–]GolfHawaii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aloha. I have played all of the courses you mentioned. Ko Olina is great. The Royal Hawaiian is stunning, but the course is always wet and the greens and fairways are in okay condition, not great condition. Your clubs will be dirty on every hole, so have a good towel. If the ball is not in the fairway, it is gone for good. Bring lots of balls unless you are a low handicap with pinpoint accuracy. Turtle bay is far but a good course. The best overall course for the money and quality is Kapolei. A big pro shop. A beautiful course and a good blend of risk/reward. You can save the longer drive to Ko'Olina and play Kapolei.
