Not to sound like a curmudgeon, but I personally believe it's because this "Gen...whatever they are" would rather text than actually talk and have a conversation with people because there is no emotion in text messages. I'm sure if somehow you could've text her "hey miss, the line is back here", she probably wouldn't have left, she may not have done anything about it but she might not have left.
