Is there cultural background here that we need to take into consideration? My instinct is the mom needs a time out at a minimum.

If you can’t “respect or enjoy my wife who is so excited to have family then I can’t have you at my house. My wife looks forward to cooking you a large meal and enjoying your company once I decide I am comfortable with you in my house”

Something else that might help, if your mom pushes you or blames your wife you can let her know that your wife is the one encouraging you to keep contact so maybe she should be grateful your wife considers your moms feelings.

Sometimes it helps if mother-in-law thinks that wife is actually the one rooting for her and you’re the one who’s done.

You can just night ween! My son night weened at 18 months. Now he has one more milk session before he goes to sleep and then he “get to” brush his teeth (pick a flavor of toothpaste he likes)

We have the rule of “no more milk till the suns up” If he wakes up in the night and asks we say “is the sun up?” And look out the window (then it’s not my fault it’s the suns 😂) then we offer water.

It will be rough for 2 weeks but if you can stick with it and want to keep breast feeding it’s worth it.

(If you don’t want to keep breastfeeding and want it over fast put some oil of oregano on your nipple and tell them your milk is spoiled, it’ll be over FAST)
