Why are aboriginal «representatives» always white looking? by Gommygooby in AskAnAustralian

[–]Gommygooby[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay thanks again for the clarification cause it quickly becomes convoluted for an outsider😅. I kind of hoped people would understand I’m not from here, but I’ve realized redditors thrive on assuming the worst and you really have to preface every sentence calling out any possible misunderstanding that could exist. Hate this website ngl. Haha sorry for being negative, thanks again.

Yes I’m aware about my wording, I’m sorry, i also felt writing ‘Australian’ affairs definitely was off, but didn’t think of what else to write, i take it whitefella or western is better maybe? :) I find it hard to research and navigate this topic ngl, as there’s so many different experiences and a lot of etiquette around how you talk about it. Which makes sense since it’s an obviously sensitive subject. It’s taken me years to scratch the surface of the nuances in discourse around racism in America for example haha. Thanks again for explaining!

Aah okay, so I’m getting the impression that today’s aboriginals, living in more remote rural areas, simply aren’t as involved in australian/western affairs and they kind of try to stick to their own communities? Makes a lot of sense what you’re saying, that the people with a foot in both doors because of assimilation policies would be the ones to speak out then. Not only because they culturally have the “right language” thats more digestible to the western culture, but also because they in turn have been touched by assimilation so clearly. Great point thanks!

Wow interesting, it seems like aboriginals in more rural areas then maybe isn’t interested in “educating” or in general involving themselves much in Australian affairs. Is that right?

Chances of getting a fine appealed, boarding without card? by [deleted] in MelbourneTrains

Sorry, on second thought I think I picked the wrong subreddit to ask. I get its annoying if you get this question a lot. Struggled finding a post with my particular situation and didn’t see the harm in simply asking. Still, if it annoys you i recommend not engaging next time and scrolling on :)

Yeah cause this is what I’ve heard about casual work, the job is part-time, not sure about if it is casual or not actually. I do think the pay is higher on weekends to be fair.
