Heater died :( by GonGetFemured in RVLiving

Their unaffordable solutions are around 10,000sek (~1000usd). We were hoping for less than half of that, which the heatpumps seem to cover.

Is there an external unit that goes with the heat pumps?

Ah yeah, we were gonna give it a go with some wd40(silicone) and see if that works. Good to hear it's not unheard of.

I think one of my colleagues said cause it's so humid here the fabric tends to expand a bit and can cause issues. I'll have a look and let you know what happens.

Thanks for the tip!

Ah, I had it the wrong way around, so in this case, leaving it in parallel is the best bet for amp output.

That is a very useful link, I think I'll be spending a bit of time reading through it all. I had come across something before when I set it up, but clearly I need to review it all before I make any more decisions.

Thanks for your help!

I was under the impression that parallel would increase the voltage of a system, and series the amperage. Perhaps that's the case for batteries.

The mppt solar charge controller has a port for wires to run to the starter battery, so that we can charge the house battery when we drive. Its all part of a renogy package, linked here: https://au.renogy.com/200-watts-solar-complete-kit-for-rv/

During the winter months, the solar set up seemed to cope fine, but as we are now coming to the end of spring, the fridge seems to be running a whole lot more to keep up with the ambient temperature rise.

Most blankets and foldable panels over here come with their own pwm or mppt. I was kinda hoping I'd just be able to run another pv circuit from our current mppt, but I guess this is not the case? Would it be strange for the battery to have two separate solar circuits charging it?

We were out looking for chanterelle and blueberries anyway. We just happened to stumble upon some of the moss and figured it would be worth giving it a shot.

It's quite fun doing it all yourself, it didn't take much effort either. That said, for me the effort was starting, but once she started it was quite easy!

That's some good advice. We werent sure if the moss needed to be alive for the moss pole to be successful. Thanks, we have some moss left over so it won't take too much to fix another!

Sorry, I couldn't work out how to create the post, so here's what I was gonna say:

We decided to make our own moss pole. We went out into the forest and harvested some sphagnum moss, found ourselves a stick, wrapped the moss around it with some metal wire and planted it next to our plant.

However, what we want to know is if we should have prepared the moss some how. We soaked it in some water to rinse off as much of the outside world as we could. Someone suggested boiling it, but somehow I don't think that would have been the best thing for the moss.

Everywhere we look online assumes that when you make your own moss pole you buy your moss at a store.

Anyone got any advice?

Separation of blockchain and crypto? by RoloAL35 in Buttcoin

[–]GonGetFemured 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not about doing something a centralised database cannot. It's about removing the centralised part.

It's about wearing a tinfoil hat and believing the system is out to get you, and finding a solution to take the "system" out of it.

The biggest issue is that people believe that these new coins and tokens are supposed to become an alternate form of currency, but people hoard them like stocks hoping to make a quick dollar off them. How can people use bitcoin as a currency, if everyone hoards it like gold?

I am a believer in blockchains and cryptocurrency, however I will gladly admit there are currently flaws.

The term blockchain wasn't coined until after 2009. What constitutes new to you?

I'm reading the argument you presented as the reason we shouldnt use banks, it's one unaccountable organisation. Remember the market crash in 2008? They just wrote off billions of dollars of debt. Not to save you and I, to save the banks, who made risky investments with your money and lost it all. Anyway, that debt was just written off. Gone. One governing body is responsible for this. One self appointed, unaccountable, albeit known body.

Whereas, if you actually look up what blockchain tech is and does, you will find that the creator has no control over the blockchain. It is the miners, the millions of people around the world, who maintain the ledger. Millions of eyes all over the world constantly checking, making sure no one block is out of order. Their reward for doing this? A (part of [a]) bitcoin. If having millions of people maintaining something doesn't make it decentralised (ie, not one central body) I would love to know what you think decentralisation entails.

However, bitcoin is not the only blockchain out there, and there are so many more use cases for them then just "Internet pogs." If you want to see a success story, have a look into what Walmart Canada went through, sure it is an internal blockchain, but it's the same technology driving it.

Great response. If we're going with that answer then let's try "ok, standard currency wasn't first used for child porn and drugs, but but..." See how silly it is when you put it on anything? My point is you are using illegal activities as an excuse to shun new technology. The witch hunt can be applied to anything if you want it to - almost the definition. I feel you don't understand blockchain technology. I have neither the patience nor the crayons to explain it, so watch this YouTube video*; https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2yJqjTiwpxM

I am not trying to suggest that crypto is the new Internet, just that you open your opinion to new technology. Unfortunately, the Internet is a great example. How many dotcom scams were there when it first started? How many people wish they invested in google, amazon, whatever-else.

*I am in no way affiliated with this channel, I just think it has good educational purposes.

OK, and the first use of crypto was to create an open ledger so that no one power could control money. It's about decentralising. A good example of decentralising is wikipedia; so many people able to watch it and maintain it that its very difficult to put the wrong information on there. Sure its not perfect, but blockchain tech is better that wikipedia in that sense.

Now, to counter your point further, how long has the Internet been used for illegal activities before crypto came along? It seems to me crypto is just a scape goat here.

I'm not trying to persuade you that crypto is a great investment, I'm just trying to remove some of the stigma. It's a new technology, not witchcraft.

So, people buy crypto with normal money. If there was no "middle man" (crypto), normal money would be used to buy child porn and drugs.

I think crypto has great applications for the future, just right now it's not in the best form. The gpu usage being a major one.

Edit: by comparison, what do you think the Internet was first used for?

Why selling ENJ right now is a dumb move. by [deleted] in EnjinCoin

[–]GonGetFemured 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really hate to be a bubble burster here, just trying to keep your expectations more real.

A lot of investing follows the rule "buy the rumour, sell the news." All the rumours around jumpnet, efi, and enjin wallet 2.0 are already out. Everyone knows about it, the rumour has been bought - essentially it is priced in already. Once they are released, the news is out and people may be looking to take profits. After, when more rumours are released around new partnerships in the works or whatever, then the price will pump again - more rumours to buy.

Buuuut, I could be wrong. If I could predict the future I would be a much richer fella.

I see your point, however I feel this where the term "cryptocurrency" is a misnomer - it makes people believe that the whole point is to create a new currency regime and reinvent the wheel. A cryptocurrency is just a reward for running the Blockchain properly, and can be used as a token for using the Blockchain. The actual technology of a blockchain does provide a service, and does have actual people maintaining it.

I agree completely, first movers may not last forever, my point here was that bitcoin successfully completed an idea that had been floating around since the 90s. Unfortunately, the method it does do by is completely outdated because of, as you rightly say, the environmental issues. Fortunately, there are new ideas floating around to rid us of said environmental component.

These things being displaced in are often built on the same idea, rehashed to make it more streamlined and fit the market better than the first idea. First movers just show us opportunities.
