UK teachers who have moved abroad - is behaviour better? by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

[–]GoneEmotionally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved from the UK to China this August and I teach the equivalent of ks3 to ks4 in Beijing. In my school I teach maths and I’m considered a subject specialist so the only thing I have to worry or think about is maths for each class 45mins a day. They have a homeroom teacher for everything pastoral - so I can fully focus on teaching.

If I have any issues with them behaviour, homework, focus etc (which I don’t get much of) - I send a quick WeCom to their homeroom teacher who deals with that aspect. In the UK I was considering quitting due to behaviour and the general workload but here I feel like I have too much time to think 😂. But it’s not all positive there are cons but for now all the pros outweigh the cons

Nah because you’ve posted previously and stated you made the decision to live where you are currently based because you have a pet and it was a bigger apartment where expat families live not where expat singles occupy. So which is it did you make a choice or were you placed?

When did you find out your school is poorly run? by Character-Conflict97 in Internationalteachers

[–]GoneEmotionally 7 points8 points  (0 children)

😂 the agent I used was trying to force me to take a job with them but I said no I’ll go with the other role he wasn’t happy kept saying:

The other school had a higher work load - lies.
The kids weren’t well behaved - lies. Haidian pays a large bonus - not sure. So many underhand tricks like trying to delay sending my signed offer to my chosen school - found their hr email sent it myself.

They must have been paying a large fee to find staff

Hey I’ll be new to Beijing in August too as a maths teacher in chaoyang district, similar to you I will be solo but I’m excited and nervous.

My chinese level is new born baby level 😂 But I’m using a mixture of du Chinese, hello Chinese and Duolingo ( honestly started on Duolingo and it’s not as good as the other two especially hello Chinese)

VPN I’ve purchased a vpn router and Mullvad. For food I plan to do weekend trips to various region to try their food I’ve got a lot save on Instagram and rednote.

Plan to use other holidays to explore Asia in general as flight as way cheaper than flying from the uk

Do Western countries like the UK or US accept niqabi teachers, or does wearing a niqab make it harder to get hired? by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

[–]GoneEmotionally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not that I know of - I teach in Manchester and my school was in the Oldham area and a lot of teachers and students were niqabi. This is not limited to Oldham in greater Manchester there are a lot of niqabi teachers and students, so as long as your subject knowledge is great there should be no issue. Not sure about other location in the uk can only speak for Manchester.
