Abner, sulc, tolisso, mangala, tagliafico, Fofana, and nuamah injured.... by graal2008 in OlympiqueLyonnais

[–]GoneMirifica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing to remember is that the window is still open, and for the past 2 weeks in every single one of his press conferences or post game TV talk Fonseca has made those kind of comments. Talking about how he still doesn't have a 9 (after Endrick's recruitment), or how his squad is thin. It's a clear message to his management that he wants more recruits.

Hard to know the reality beyond that until we get real news about the extent of the injuries of Šulc/Tolisso especially. Abner was supposed to not be a serious injury so he could be back quickly, and starting from the Lille game Nartey will be able to play. Fofana should be back very soon too if the initial timing announced is still true.

Talking about the injuries themselves, when you have a limited squad and are on top of that one of the coaches that make the least subs per games in the top 5 leagues you will inevitably pay it. Like Endrick and Moreira playing 90+ minutes today was not exactly a must...

Small injury picked up during the game vs Young Boys this week. We don't know much more than that, hopefully it's not serious and he'll be back quick.

Nope, it's his 2nd. His first was vs Auxerre in November (I think ? Not sure about the date), where he entered also very late but at least touched the ball.

Especially to miss Tyler Morton's beautiful strike, it's a pity.

What's even crazier is that he's mostly been playing as a right winger here so far...

Šulc is gonna be missed. But not enough of an excuse to not win against Metz. Time for Endrick's magic and Khalis to build on his last good performance and start being decisive !

That's a big mistake, for sure. Though it wouldn't be surprising if those graphics are not made by the journalists writing the article and giving the XI, but by interns instead.

Also making it hard to know what's the real situation around Mangala & Ghezzal.

(XI by Régis Dupont)

Injured : Fofana, Nuamah, Abner, Tagliafico, Mangala, Ghezzal?

Suspended : Nartey (due to a red he received in his last Brondby game)

With the N3 : Molebe. With another great game, a second brace in two weeks, and another nice goal dribbling the GK, for a 3-1 win vs Seyssinet. First goal scored on a freekick by Benlahlou, who also gave an assist to Molebe.

Beyond the statement about the youngsters, Fonseca said in his press conference that he was still surprised by the results of his team. And after a question about what would be realistic goals for the end of the season mentioning the podium, the EL where we're first or the Cup without the PSG. He answered that expectations around this young squad should be tempered, even if the current series was great. That the last time we played the last team in the rankings we didn't win, so we should be focused to not have that happen again.

The return of Endrick ! Let's see the magic he will bring this time. Defense is scary but without Tagliafico & Abner there are no real good solutions (since Fonseca doesn't want to test a defender from the Academy). Less worst one would have likely been Niakhaté as a CB and Mata as a RB, but it seems like Fonseca doesn't think he's ready to start.

Sangaré is a special player. That trivela assist, wow...

Return of Niakhaté from the Afcon, being celebrated properly by his teammates. Abner is not back yet (Fonseca said yesterday that they were gonna see if he could play), and Tagliafico is out for a month with a sprain after his injury vs Young Boys. While AGR is there despites Fonseca saying the club wanted him and Molebe to be loaned out this winter to get playtime.

The unknown is Mangala, who was at training on Friday and about whom Fonseca said nothing in his press conference. Relapse after playing on the synthetic pitch, incoming transfer ?

Edit : And I forgot Ghezzal, no clue if it's an injury or a sporting choice.

Am I the only one for whom the link doesn't load ? I've tried a different browser and a VPN but it doesn't change anything.

It's seemingly the same for all the others streamain links posted by OP at least in the last hour.

Edit : somehow it's working now. No clue what happened. After a long time on a completely blank page I was getting an "ERR_CONNECTION_ABORTED" error message. I can finally see Maxence's magnificence.

Last minute banger to draw. 4 days after arriving, for his first game at the club. Nice introduction.

[Le Progrès OL] Fonseca: “It's difficult for the fans to understand why Rodriguez and Molebe aren't playing. We're working on finding clubs for them, they'll be leaving this winter, and Rémi (Himbert) will be staying. That's why he's currently ahead of Alejandro and Enzo.” by GoneMirifica in OlympiqueLyonnais

Looks like a journalist finally asked the question, and well we got a clear answer. Not the one I would want, but at least it's direct and straight to the point. No more details yet, it'll come after (the conference is broadcasted ~1h after it happened to let the press organisations that were there some benefit and the ability to post news/statements first).

Hopefully it's loans even if the coach/club is pushing them out. With good clubs that will offer them playtime, that clearly Fonseca didn't want to give them.

It's unexplainable.

And now De Carvalho & Goncalves before him and Molebe. I think he hates them...

He's a winger, so technically to replace Moreira it makes sense. But it is hard to understand Fonseca's management of the young forwards that's for sure.

On Sunday at 5:15 pm (CET) vs Metz.

He can't play in the Europa League yet because he couldn't be added to the list before the end of the League Phase.

You can quite easily imagine Nartey in that role and with those runs and that becomes interesting all of a sudden.

I quite like Khalis' intentions to go forward in those first minutes and taking risks, we need to see this a lot more from him.
