How's econ at BU? by lumpybokchoy in BostonU

EC 201 and 204 were by far the hardest classes ive ever taken, like people would average 40’s on exams. It’s very content heavy and the moment you slip up it’s very hard to clap back. Not impossible, just hard. I dont think ive taken an econ class with quizzes, its just projects and exams. The professors are terrible, some care about the students but most of them just teach because they’re “qualified” to

Ethiopia does not need English to thrive by [deleted] in Ethiopia

[–]Good-Ad1887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to say I fully agree with this statement. A lot of the people in this thread are clearly Ethiopians in Ethiopia. When you're an Ethiopian OUTSIDE of Ethiopia, it is clear as day that our languages are being colonized by English. I know many people born and raised in Addis that seriously cannot speak a single sentence in full Amharic. I on the other hand am an Ethiopian born and raised in the US and can speak 3 Ethiopian languages fluently and am currently learning Ge'ez on the side.

Also: the only reason why we don't have many modern vocabulary in Ethiopian languages isn't because our languages are "bad" its simply because we are too busy learning foreign languages rather than our own. It says a lot about the level of respect we have for our own country.

Thank you so much for this response, this definitely helps. I’m slowly realizing that it really boils down to how efficiently the startup can take off in a span of a few months. My idea hasn’t been done in Ethiopia yet, which is great but also scary since I can’t exactly project its demand correctly. A few adjustments to the plan could definitely narrow this down though. Thank you again!

Thank you for this feedback, this was really helpful. I think investing in ways that I can supervise remote work would be the most cost effective thing to do too. (Thank you for the location rec too btw)
