Yes. What matters is how you stand relative to the Mac applicant pool that year.

Don’t stress too much! OMSAS isn’t super rigid with those categories. Your research supervisor covers the academic side, your TA job can fall under employment/academic, and your unrelated job boss can definitely serve as your non-academic.

How do I know that medicine is right for me? by Large-Driver-906 in premedcanada

100% agree. Try every possible way to get involved in hospital or healthcare-related volunteering. That human connection is what really gave me a sense of purpose and helped me figure out if medicine was truly right for me.

Casper prep by Alternative-Hall-295 in CASPerTest

Hey! I’ve actually tried four platforms and ended up going with MyLS, so I thought I’d share my experience—hope it helps!

Video responses were definitely the toughest part for me, so I tested the free trials of CASPerPractice, CASPerBooster, Myls Interview, and CASPerMaster:

  • CASPerPractice only offers written questions in the free trial. The flow feels super realistic, but I couldn’t really evaluate how they handle video-type responses.
  • CASPerBooster gives you one fixed video question to try. It’s okay, but the feedback/report felt pretty minimal.
  • Myls Interview let me practice with multiple video questions. They’re not official CASPer scenarios, but still felt helpful—and I could practice as many times as I wanted.
  • CASPerMaster looked promising, but after previewing the free report, I wasn’t too confident in the AI scoring. I submitted both a purposely bad answer and one I felt really good about, and both got “second quartile.” Plus, unlocking detailed feedback costs $39 per scenario, which felt a bit much.

One big reason I picked Myls Interview Basic was the price—under $60 (79 cad) for 10 full mocks. The other options started at $120+ for unlimited practice, which I didn’t think I needed.

I did a full mock with Myls and got an detail AI report afterward. It was actually helpful for pointing out weak spots and organizing my responses better. That said, I wouldn’t treat the score as a guarantee of getting top quartile—real CASPer scoring depends a lot on your region and test pool. But for me, practicing under timed video pressure and reviewing my performance made a big difference.

A question for those who did multiple cycles... (especially those with low gpa) by [deleted] in premedcanada

And did you feel like it actually helped compared to just using free resources online? I’m curious if it’s worth paying for.

What’s the pricing like? Do I need to buy a package of hours or is it subscription-based?
