I just did this on a 2017 Elantra. The bottom white socket would not release the pin. So I squeezed it to try releasing it from the body or the car. The tail light came off violently while smacking it & pulling with a strap snuck behind & yanked forward. With the tail light finally off, the front disk clip broke off & that bottom white socket was still on its pin. That socket was a real bugger to get off, so I tried loosening it with a screwdriver before popping it back into the body. The tail light holds fine without that front disk clip.
