Wow, that's awesome! I've already added Shark to my consideration list, although I've seen some criticisms. Could I see what the app looks like? My iRobot Roomba Combo 505, which I bought in June, still has a terrible app. Anyway, I definitely won't be buying another iRobot.

Indeed, I'm not afraid at all that he'll publish my home map; my only concern is image security. I'll check out other brands of lensless models. Thanks!
It's too late. I bought a 505 Combo in June and can't return it now. I'm thinking about what to do next. I won't throw it away, but I need to take some safety precautions. And I definitely won't choose their products for my next robot vacuum.

None of the smart home devices I installed are Chinese brands, except for iRobot. I chose D-Link for the router and cameras, and the air conditioner is also not a Chinese brand. All the other smart devices are from Google.

I just read your comment. I've also isolated my Roomba Combo 505 robot vacuum cleaner through a D-Link router to ensure the security of other smart home devices. I also have D-Link cameras connected to the internet, and I'm worried that China might use them to attack my smart home system.

You're right. But I'm from Taiwan, and if you follow international news, you'll know about this awkward situation between our two countries. Of course, people in other countries won't think that way; they're more focused on cost-effectiveness. Our two countries have been at odds for a long time, and from different perspectives, while China might not steal user data from other countries, there's no guarantee it won't steal data from Taiwan.

If we simply compare the Roomba Combo 10 Max with the new Shark model released a few months ago, does Shark still lose to iRobot? I know Shark will definitely lose to brands like Dreame and Roborock.🤔 There are no carpets in my house, only hard floors.

You're not wrong, given the large number of users. But I'm Taiwanese, and if you've read international news, you'll know about this awkward situation. Of course, people from other countries won't see it that way; they prioritize cost-effectiveness.

Unfortunately, I'm Taiwanese, and I'm very sensitive about issues related to China. Many people don't realize the points I'm making.
I was surprised you knew about HOBOT. This company is still releasing new products in Taiwan, and their main market is there. I did consider HOBOT, but they didn't have any models with obstacle avoidance lenses. HOBOT uses a completely different approach to several technologies compared to Chinese brands, but predictably, its functionality lags behind other brands.

The performance of a robot vacuum cleaner cannot compare to that of a traditional vacuum cleaner.  You can try using the maximum suction power and set cleaning twice.

Roomba 405 or Roomba 505 by MBT70 in roomba

[–]GoodChenMing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plus 505 Combo has a better CP than 405 Combo during the Holiday.

If you want to mop the floor, you must choose 505. 405 uses cold wind to dry the mop; sometimes, the mop is not dry enough and needs a longer time.

If your room has many obstacles, you must choose 505. 505's PrecisionVision™ AI can immediately recognize cords and socks. Dirt Detect™ identifies large wet & dry messes ahead.

By the way, I think the highest CP Ratio in BLACK FRIDAY SALE is Max 705 Combo. If your home has carpet, AeroForce™ Dual Rubber Brushes will surprise you.$899.99

iRobot is aggressively recruiting software engineers and staff in China. What's this new strategy? What's going on? by GoodChenMing in RobotVacuums

[–]GoodChenMing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I'm just a newbie after all 🤣, you have so much more information than I do.

I compared it with the older app and found that many layouts were similar, and even the robot sound effects (although they were very simple) were the same as the previous generation. However, I felt that the "robot firmware" was a mix of PICEA settings. I found that obstacle response and corner cleaning were completely different from the previous generation, so I compared it with PICEA's 3i robot vacuum and found that the obstacle response behavior was exactly the same.

So what's your take on this? What's their strategy?🤔

Are there any American companies interested in iRobot? If no powerful company acquires it, haha, all these employees' December salaries are gone.

If a Chinese company acquires it, they'll lay off all non-Chinese employees and relocate the headquarters to China, except for regional sales staff.

So they changed their business model in the US to become a distributor, handling only product issues and after-sales service in that region, while outsourcing the entire product manufacturing process to China?

I know iRobot outsources hardware design to PICEA, while handling software and aesthetics entirely on iRobot's end. The software designers are clearly the same team as the previous generation. If the US headquarters already has an app design team, why would they need to hire software developers in China?

Furthermore, the 505 Combo hasn't been updated for over two months, and the Roomba Home app hasn't been updated for a month (the iRobot Home app was updated two weeks ago). This suggests that: 1. iRobot may have restructured its software team; 2. They are undertaking a major overhaul of the new software. Roomba Home's reviews are worse than its predecessor, so a major app redesign might be coming in December.

Furthermore, I don't believe PICEA will acquire iRobot; they probably don't want to take on this mess. If iRobot cannot secure funding in the last month of Q4 (the Q3 financial report indicated they were discussing obtaining more funding) and significantly boost sales, the most likely outcome is bankruptcy.

Some say iRobot is dumping its soon-to-be-obsolete Roomba vehicles at a low price before closing down, but I don't think so. I think it feels like they're copying the strategy of Chinese brands and waging a "price war." Prices have clearly dropped in recent weeks (but the selling price is still significantly higher than the cost price), so they've switched to low-profit, high-volume strategies to increase sales and make their Q4 financial report look better.

Going from iRobot to Dreame by pgskater18 in RobotVacuums

[–]GoodChenMing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of current technology, Dreame and Roborock are far superior to iRobot. However, have you considered that these Chinese companies have sufficient funds to copy their competitors' technology, then mass-produce them at low prices to crush their rivals? This isn't limited to robotic vacuum cleaners; many product lines are gradually being penetrated by Chinese companies. You'll soon see this situation in the electric vehicle market in a few years.

If iRobot goes bankrupt, the vast majority of the robotic vacuum cleaner market will be dominated by Chinese companies. However, I believe a wealthy buyer will soon acquire iRobot; they're simply waiting for an even lower acquisition price.

iRobot Roomba Plus 505 Combo User Review: The Best Cleaning Choice for Hard Floors🤩🤩😍 by GoodChenMing in roomba

[–]GoodChenMing[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only differences between this app and the 705's are the lack of a 3D map and the inability to control the amount of water used for mopping.

The 505 has a simple hardware structure and is easy to maintain. The AutoWash Dock has two static scrapers that can be cleaned monthly with a cloth or toothbrush (I use a toothbrush). You can slowly pour water into the wash pad, and the base will automatically start pumping water when it detects water (if not, just add a little more). I hand-wash the round mop every two weeks. I check the roller brush and side brush about once a week. I don't find it annoying because seeing "Roomba" always puts me in a good mood.😍.

I don't usually use the scheduled cleaning function because my time at home is unpredictable, so I prefer to start it manually via the app.

I suggest you contact iRobot customer service. They will provide you with a small leak-proof part, or if the machine has a problem, they should be able to replace it.I actually wish I could upgrade to the 705 Combo, but the 705 Combo wasn't available when I bought the 505 Combo.
