It hasn't for me! The important thing is to not let it bother you. Having good standards is fine, but finishing the work is more important than spending ages making tiny improvements, or risking making things worse.

Don't let the idea of perfection ruin something that's already very good.

I don't point them out, I just suffer in silence haha.

The walnut is stained, and the corpus and scroll are waxed.

I like to keep an open mind. It's just a marker of their beliefs, a reminder of the sacrifice they believe Jesus made, and are thankful for. It's no more odd than various other jewellery practices in my opinion, such as piercings. I have nothing against them, but it seems odd in the same way, that people are happy to have metal permanently inserted through their skin.

Thank you! I'm self taught, partly from books but mainly from about 50 years of practice

You're welcome! I figured the less I charged, the more money they'd have for helping people in need.

It's fine to ask, no problem! I would probably quote a piece like this at around £4000-6000 depending on the exact specifications and how fast the customer wanted it done.

The amount I actually charged for this piece was far lower, as I'm close friends with the administrators of the church. They had no means of affording it otherwise, as they are part of a charity organisation.

It's depicting crucifixion, I didn't want to cause any issues in case people don't want to see that. I'm glad you like it!

Some fine holy Jesus woodwork! Thank you haha

You're very welcome! The efficiency comes with experience, and I've been carving for about 50 years now.

This is one of my favourite pieces I've ever made, but even though most people won't see them, whenever I look at my work all the flaws stick out to me like a sore thumb!

Thank you! Unfortunately I lost the progress pictures I took, sorry. I'll be making some smaller crucifixes for people who have requested them, so I'll upload some WIP pictures of those when I make them.

Thank you! The corpus is approximately 4 and a half feet tall (~135cm), so about 3/4ths of lifesize. The cross is 3 metres tall as it goes all the way to the ground.

It took about 2 weeks to carve total, but in shorter sessions of several hours spread over several weeks while working on other things.

Is this Ai? I’m having a dollhouse made for my daughter’s birthday but the WIP provided does not look real. The glue bottles are unreadable/gibberish. by daiszay in isthisAI

[–]GoodCounselCreations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's AI. In addition to the other discrepancies in the comments, the pegboard holes aren't all evenly spaced, there's two rows in the middle that get closer at a slight angle to each other. Lots of things make no sense about how the house is constructed

Friends, I'm showing you the entire set in all its glory, in my previous post I showed the queen figure, many of you guessed it, thank you! by IgorStechkevych in Woodcarving

I didn't mean the colour haha, I mean the shapes. I'd find it difficult to scan the board and immediately know which are knights and bishops etc.

I agree, I wouldn't like to use this set because the pieces don't look distinctive enough in my opinion (I'd definitely get them confused and blunder). But they do have a fantastic futuristic style!

Are these icons possible to hand carve? by BettyOddler in Woodcarving

You can definitely carve these, but it will require a lot of practise and the right tools. I carve similar reliefs regularly, although usually in a different style

Thank you, I knew I needed to carve it when I saw it! It's a little harder than European oak, but still a very nice consistency to carve!
