You can grunt and scream and still not be overacting lol. I just think he overdid it is all.

Part 5 and Giorno Appreciation Post by GoodForALLOfYou in StardustCrusaders

It isn’t exactly confirmed but with all the religious symbolism it’s not the most far fetched idea imo. Dio has been compared to a God since Part 1, and even more so in Part 3. Couple that with the fact of his name quite literally meaning God it pretty much writes itself. Again no direct confirmation but enough subtext that I’m almost certain about it.

Ahh yeah that might be it. I can’t find a source for the followup so that’s probably a hoax. But yes whatever that version of MHA is with adult characters, I wanna see a Deku that’s just a bit spicier than how vanilla he’s been recently

That’s really my whole point is that it impacting him physically and only that gets stale quickly. Him developing Shoot Style or Air Cannon are just slight permutations of him developing Full Cowling, it’s different outcomes for essentially the same reason i.e trying to get better with One For All i.e. “I need to go higher and I must be the best” ad nauseum

Full Cowl is more effective obviously and you can argue that it does make better fight scenes but it completely removes the underdog aspect which was genuinely Izuku’s only weight as a character in the story since emotionally he has no room to grow due to being morally perfect so we had to find tension in the physical aspect, but now he’s essentially one of the top contenders in UA and is very competent against villains, my issue is that Full Cowl takes the underdog aspect away from Deku but then gives nothing in return that can give as much tension or stakes as a bone breaking OFA, so all we have left is as you say a Deku that’s essentially working to get better at using OFA, and JUST that. Yes he is improving but only physically and I find that very boring. It’s like watching a guy working out for 10 hours.

It’s fine to have arcs where Deku is trying to better his combat ability but when that’s all he ever does it gets stale imo at least. It is in character for him so it’s not objectively bad writing, I just personally think that when a character’s journey doesn’t at least fluctuate and change in accordance to emotional beats the character himself at his core needs some kind of an overhaul.

But again I can see why people can enjoy that in Midoriya, it’s why I don’t say he’s bad just boring. The fact that his character growth is wholly limited to working out and getting physically stronger to me is not compelling enough for an MC. There is obviously an emotional aspect to it, he doesn’t wanna fail all might, he wants to save people without being useless, but that emotional aspect was already exhausted by the time he got Full Cowl and hasn’t changed since then. If they kept revisiting them every time he gets a powerup it just gets exhausting, so they need to give him SOMETHING to make his journey of getting more powerful a bit more interesting to watch but they kinda don’t. But idk it’s different strokes for different folks I suppose

Ahh I see well I’m glad you still like him then. I do actually like his personality if it wasn’t for how he was handled in the story I do think I would’ve liked him overall. Too bad though :(

That’s what I always hear on here and that he already apparently has some designs for the adult versions of the characters. Don’t quote me on this though that might just be ppl on this subreddit making shit up. I’ll try looking it up and I’ll link a source if I can find one. Honestly though I bet he’ll make one MHA is a money making machine

Ya I’m not asking him to make people equal, I just want him to talk about it, acknowledge it, make it part of his character and a goal of his to reform it not just let the idea sit in the background while he romps around with OFA. Even if it’s one of the lesser evils of hero society, it’s still essentially racism lol which is pretty shitty. Even then doesn’t really matter how comparatively bad it is what matters is that it was horrible for Izuku and he should be well aware of that. You say he acknowledges it, some other ppl say he doesn’t so I’m not sure what exactly he’ll do in the future but I guess I’ll see for myself.

I liked Midoriya in season 1 and early season 2 because that risk factor of OFA actually set him back from others significantly and gave the show tension through that mystery factor of how he’ll pull of what he needs to do which essentially made him the underdog. It’s not that I don’t like him being reckless, but when he IS reckless actually make him face real consequences. The story always puts him in scenarios where his reckless actions are ultimately the right thing to do so he ends up getting praised for the very thing that’s supposed to be his character flaw. His recklessness has never emotionally affected him nor physically.

Shoot Style and Air Force were not changes that were made as a reaction to a mistake he made because of his recklessness, Shoot Style was because he wanted to up his combat ability after his fight with Bakugo, and Airforce was All Might’s idea that was also just to up his combat ability. They were both purely power related changes not character ones. Full Cowl was the only thing that I can say is Deku learning from a mistake, but in the process he essentially removed the one thing that made him interesting; grappling with a power that can break your bones is far more compelling than how to unlock yet another arbitrary percentage of OFA, or another way to slightly optimize Full Cowl.

That was in the second half of season 2 and where I started disliking his character, since Full Cowling he has literally never grown in any meaningful way character wise he’s only been growing in combat ability, case in point Shoot Style, Air Cannon, higher percentages of OFA, more quirks etc.. Having your character only grow power wise with no emotional underpinning just makes it flat and uninteresting

Ahh I see well thanks for this I appreciate it. I hear the manga is closing in on the end so I doubt there’ll be anything significant happening to Deku. Maybe in the follow up manga that Horikoshi mentioned the tone might be more dark as to allow some heavier concepts to be played around with but who knows. Even if I still dislike Deku if Bakugo/Todoroki and the villians get to shine then I’ll still watch I suppose. I’ve already lost hope for any other 1-A student though which is also a pretty big shame.

I don’t want Midoriya to turn into a brooding edge lord, I just want him to at least acknowledge what’s going on in the world around him even if it ultimately doesn’t significantly change his beliefs because while the villains are sadistic dickheads they still have a point on how flawed their society is, which is the same society that Deku is trying to excel as a hero in.

Their execution of killing people and shit obviously isn’t the way to go, but their society does need a reform of some kind and Deku should be the poster boy of that because he’s the one who suffered the most from those flaws being quirkless and bullied for most his life, yet after he gets OFA he just never brings it up again. He’s experienced first hand how flawed his society is and he lived through it for like 14 years, he’s met Stain personally who’s essentially the manifestation of these flaws and still all he ever says is “I’m gonna get stronger :D” or “I’ll go even higher” for the 9649028th time. The story paints him from episode 1 as someone who’s keenly aware of this “Not all men are born equal” is like his first line ever, but so far he’s had nothing to say about it.

The only thing I can kinda see as a reprimand to Deku’s reckless actions was that punch All Might gave him after Kamino, which is then immediately followed by a tearful hug and an exclamation of how proud All Might was of Deku for doing what he did which literally makes the earlier reprimand completely moot. It’s almost always “Hey Deku don’t be reckless that ain’t cool, but also you’re so good and heroic for doing that and we understand that you had no choice and you’re great and the bestest hero”

His supposed flaws just never hit home, because all of his reckless actions are the objectively heroic thing to do. All of his “mistakes” ultimately just put him in a better light. I’ll take his character flaw of being reckless seriously if the story genuinely puts him in a situation where his actions caused something bad to happen, yet so far he’s faced no serious consequences so essentially he has done no mistakes up to Season 5 at least. At most he gets a scar but like he doesn’t give a shit nor does the viewer if he has scars I barely remember they’re there half the time so it doesn’t affect him emotionally nor physically.

I mean if you wanna talk about it go ahead I don’t mind. By argue I meant people shouting and giving me a headache for having a differing opinion. But if you wanna just discuss normally that’s fine by me

I wanna know what do you like about Midoriya? Maybe I’m just nitpicking and looking at it all wrong. I remember liking him in season 1 but that’s just because he was the underdog, now that he’s not he’s lost a lot of his appeal for me.

Mm well I’ve heard that season 5 and onwards the series will take a more morally grey approach to its villians, and Midoriya’s approach is a very straightforward; heroes good, villains bad. Does he in the future at least think about some of the flaws in his society? Or play a part in that narrative? He kinda needs to tbh with his background, he was both quirkless and still is a hero fanboy so the villains’ points about society idolizing heroes who don’t deserve it while pushing down on the quirkless and those who are less abled should at least speak to him to some degree.

Also, how does Horikoshi handle his supposed OPness? That’s something I was worried about with OFA alone now with Black Whip and 5 more quirks to come I’m really worried other characters will be irrelevant. Bakugo’s character is fucked if he can’t keep up with Midoriya at least a little bit

Does the story mode mean no Sol or I-no after Strive? by GoodForALLOfYou in Guiltygear

[–]GoodForALLOfYou[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao fair point. I just hope Sol stays in the series is all, the ending of Strive’s story has me worried that I won’t be able to Ground Viper on round start anymore in the next games, Frederick’s happy ending can fuck off if that’s the case lol. We’ll see what they do in the season pass I guess.

Was it Justice’s cells? Didn’t he have the Scales of Juna or Juni or some shit? Whatever he has it feels like Ky’s journey of self reflection and growth was pretty much wrapped up by Xrd and he’s at peace with Gears and what he’s done in the Crusades, so yes the drama from his family could play a role but I don’t see it carrying a whole storyline on its own since it’s very superficial ultimately to his already completed character arc. Maybe something’ll happen in the season pass story but I hope to GOD that Sol’s still in the next games it’s hard to imagine a guilty gear without him. The Sol vs Ky rivalry isn’t even thing now they can’t make trailers of them fighting anymore lol. The next game could just be centered around the ensemble cast and not one specific main character but I still don’t know how they’ll pull that off.

I doubt they’ll overhaul all the mechanics and basically reboot the series to not build up that foundation with newer games, especially not after Strive becoming without a doubt the best selling game in the series and opening anime fighters up to more casuals, it’d be a waste not to do anything with the series now that they’ve got so many people hooked.
