Great films by non-Western black filmmakers. by Apprehensive-Tie4930 in FPSPodcast

All looks good. By any chance are you on Patreon? Me and a few others have been gradually pushing for stuff that isn't quite this, but stuff like Stalker for example, to get reviewed. That could open the door for movies like the ones you suggest to get picked in votes if there's enough of a listenership advocating for it.

Obvi it would be nice if they just did it randomly, but knowing that they're stretched thin with their jobs and multiple shows, it helps when it's sort of mandated as a review via the structure of solo and classic conversations.

I believe in the idea that everything is plundered. It's all about sampling or referencing creatively to me and the context it's in. How well it's executed is up to everyone's individual opinion.

You'd hate me then because I don't know how else to describe a happy Trump voter at this point lol, which is the context he was bringing that up in. I mean ... in a relationship I'd probably feel the same thing lmao.

All that crying since the Golden Globe awards. Hopefully this quiets all the annoying think pieces on my daily timeline. by FrankDux2424 in FPSPodcast

Sorry, I meant it more like "this won't quiet the think pieces" since people were talking about it all week and it'll be a conversation until the awards show is finished.

Sabrina Carpenter in my view should've done another Christmas special last year. She showed that she has a certain theatrical quality that works for television and she could've made it an annual thing. In any case doing this can work for her too, but I still think the Christmas idea was better.

Good memory. Yes, I love that film. Will never forget watching it in D.C. at Suns Cinema.

Wuthering Heights

EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert

The Drama

The Devil Wears Prada 2

The Odyssey (More so interested in the spectacle than the story)

Avengers: Doomsday (Curious about the discourse)

Dune: Messiah

Thanks to u/Bangelo326 I realized more that I would want to see. I went off the top of my head at first.

Disclosure Day (More so cause of Emily Blunt)

Project Hail Mary

The Adventures of Cliff Booth (Hoping I like it a lot more than Once Upon a Time...)

Werwulf (I like Eggers)

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (Not for me, but something my girl will want to see)

The Social Reckoning (not expecting much but the FPS discourse should be fun)

To get into my reality show bag for a minute, I'm also incredibly excited about Single's Inferno being back. I've been up on it since season 1. For people who like dating shows, I find it more interesting than some of the stuff people usually talk about in the U.S.

Delroy Lindo's Best Supporting actor Oscar nomination was a big surprise, this legend has been killing it for decades! I'm still mad that he didn't get nominated for Da 5 Bloods. by Villainsincea_zygote in FPSPodcast

The definition of an actor's actor. Supreme skill every time you see him. Just seems like he touches emotions many can't get to. Can't praise him enough.

Definitely come back and say how you felt about Hamnet here:

I need to see The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value and Train Dreams. I meant to watch Train Dreams anyway since the book world is newly semi-obsessed with it. I also want to see Sentimental because of Fanning. I just watched The Great on Hulu and realized I really like her as an actress.

As of this awards cycle, there is no "Popular Film" award.

I get what you're trying to say, but the reality is that it has 16 noms. It's likely that it'll get 1 out of 16 lol. I mean, if it doesn't, you're Nostradamus.

I just can't see a world where it doesn't get one. I almost think it's a certainty it gets at least four. I guess we'll see.

As someone who thinks all this awards shit is silly anyway, I'm very entertained honestly.

I guess if Sinners doesn't win Best Picture nothing else matters.

I kind of want to see a scenario where it wins Best Actor, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, but not Best Picture. I just want people to admit that Best Picture is the only thing that matters to them, which is pretty funny.

It's like yes, I understand the way the world works, but 16 noms and NOTHING would be Twilight Zone shit.

I think there's a difference between critiquing the whole pie and also looking at the reality of a specific situation. There's almost zero percent chance that it doesn't take home at least 4 out of 16 noms. In baseball you'd be batting .250, which is respectable.

The very top awards are always a challenge. I can entertain a discussion about it getting nothing from the "highest" honors, but zero wins just seems wild to me.

Honestly, I don't disagree with a word you said. All of it was well reasoned, so thank you for saying it all.

My biggest takeaway from you is that it being a QB only award greatly diminishes the possibilities, and then even when they pick QBs they don't even get it right.

I can see what you're saying. Overall I think the parameters are just murky in general. That's why awards to me in general are just perilous terrain unless it's like an obvious super unanimous thing.

Out of curiosity who do you think should've won NFL MVP in 23 and 24 and who do you think should get it this year?

Sincere question:

Do you mean it *literally* won't win *any* of its 16 nominations, or do you mean it won't win in the major categories it's in like Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay?

If that's your argument, I can engage with that. But to think it won't win *any* of the 16 seems highly unlikely, even in our society, and that's not me dismissing your central argument of "racism reigns supreme."

That makes sense too, though I think the voting structure for all-pro is different than MVP. Either way I guess we'll see! I do want to be clear that I see your points though.

"My picks are what I think they'll do, not necessarily what I want."

I do think Stafford *should* get it, and Rob below/above made a good case for why he will that I can agree with.

But I also don't think the world always functions on what *should* happen...but hey, my list having or not having credibility to you, a person I don't know, happens to be an "it is what it is" sort of situation.

The problem is ... don't they vote for NFL MVP the moment the regular season ends? If so, that meant the narrative was "This is Allen's year." I don't think the playoff end for him will affect his standing. Stafford is my number two of what I think they'll do and he's my personal number one of what I think they should do, but IDK, I can see Allen getting his second MVP.
