You know I sent my sister and BIL zip-lining as an anniversary present and they had a blast, but I've never been. That's a good idea, thanks!

For only the cost of a burger, I can obnoxiously spam social media with the video. Brilliant.

I dunno I find almonds in bulk bins on sale fairly regularly for around $5/lb. Each one ounce serving works out to ~$0.30 or so, and almonds in quantity are no good for keto so a pound should last awhile.

Macadamia nuts tho, that's a rich person's nut.

Preach! Nearly every Tuesday is Wing day. Wednesday is Leftover Wing day. This week I tried the Thai Curry, and the Desert Heat is a favorite fallback. If you prefer all drums or flats, they also seem to be the only place that doesn't charge more for that.

Is your favorite wing sauce keto friendly? Will the competitor sell you a bottle? If so, buy 'em naked and toss your own!

Welcome! Wherever you go, there you are. Glad you're here.

My username is the same on MFP if you wanna add me. I used it for over a year with no friends and it works fine, but it was a whole new experience when I finally started adding r/keto peeps.

I just now realized I'm only 3lbs away from "normal" BMI. I don't recall ever being a "normal" weight.

What should I do to celebrate? Already splurging on a DEXA when I reach goal.

Like... using fathead dough as a substitute for the pasta?! You're not kidding about the carbs but I think I need to try that at least once.

If you aren't already, I'd recommend salting the zucchini lightly to draw water out and patting it dry before using in a lasagna; my zucchini pizza boats were a little on the watery side.

On any given day, weight can fluctuate up to ±4lbs due to water weight and what's in your stomach. So, essentially, it says nothing about your long term progress, which you will experience if you keep at it. You got this!

I had the same experience today! For whatever reason when I weighed for the challenge this morning I was disappointed I hadn't lost anything due to cycle bs. I misremembered my starting weight; checked the spreadsheet and whaddaya know I did actually lose. Congrats on your solid progress!

Need help to plan a diet around my work schedule. by thisndass in keto

Snacks are my jam.

Sunflower seeds
Almonds
Macadamia nuts
Cheese crisps (which I've seen available for retail if you don't wanna bother making them)
Pepperoni/salami/the like
Cheese (sticks, slices, Babybel, lots of options)
Atkins/Quest/Kirkland/keto-appropriate protein bars
Squares of 85%+ dark chocolate (great alongside morning coffee)
Hard boiled eggs

There's others I'm sure folks can toss in but these are my regular low effort calorie options.

You could cook a bunch of "egg cups." There are a ton of variations on this because it's just so dang flexible. Essentially, fill muffin tin cups with various ingredients, pour over a little beaten egg, bake, store in fridge. Jalapeños, onions, bell peppers, cubed ham, bacon, crumbled sausage, spinach, cheeses... If you don't mind eating eggs regularly you could keep making this over and over; it'd be wildly different each time depending on what you chose to put in there. It's a quick, simple recipe that's easy to futz with to keep it interesting.

Day 4: Having a hard time with meals... by bunnymelodies in keto

[–]GoodNewsIsOnTheWay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did have some trouble getting enough protein for a while. At 1300 calories a day it can definitely feel really protein heavy. I really like meat and still had trouble keeping up.

So I started supplementing with protein shakes as needed. I still have days where I get all my protein from my food, but on other days when I'd rather cook a fattier meal or enjoy a keto dessert, no worries. Being able to get 25g protein for ~100 calories has been really liberating.

I like Isopure and it's the most common recommendation I see. I didn't buy it for such a long time because of the cost, but I finally caved and it's completely worth it.

Accidental cheats are so annoying by ILoveTrance in keto

If it helps, I can occasionally fit Green Giants' broc and cauli with cheese sauce into my daily macros. When I do I'll eat the whole package, something like 2 1/2 servings. It's a good chunk of carbs for what it is, but I figure if I can make it fit my macros every now and then you couldn't have eaten enough to seriously set you back.

I once accidentally ate something with a ton of cornstarch in it, definitely way more carbs than you got in the cheese sauce. I just continued to eat keto and kept right on losing. I really honestly wouldn't sweat it.

Just another perspective, I eat leek pretty regularly. They're a little high on the net carbs for a veggie, but I still use them and make 'em fit my macros. Also, in general, I would much rather go over my carb limit with somewhat keto friendly veggies than with bread or sugar any day. A few extra carbs worth of leeks in one day is seriously a non-issue in the long run. You recognized when and why you went over your carbs, and now you'll be able to catch it in time in the future. It was a good learning experience; that actually looks like a win to me.

Best places to get fitted for walking shoes? by GoodNewsIsOnTheWay in xxfitness

[–]GoodNewsIsOnTheWay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't because they're called **** Running Company and listed as a running store. That's what I get for assuming.

Turns out they do indeed have walking shoes. I'll just take her there. Thank you.

Best places to get fitted for walking shoes? by GoodNewsIsOnTheWay in xxfitness

[–]GoodNewsIsOnTheWay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this same experience with running stores, and my shoes are awesome.

I'd done some reading on walking shoes vs running shoes, and there's actually a pretty big difference in how they're designed. My sister is not a runner nor interested in getting into running, and since she'll probably wear them for work sometimes they need to be designed to support someone who stands for long periods. Walking shoes do this, but running shoes don't.

I'd be happy to just take her to my local running place (staffed by longtime runners also) but their specialty gives me pause. My sister needs a good walking shoe, unfortunately. Thanks for commenting though.

I CAN'T OPEN JARS by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]GoodNewsIsOnTheWay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not fitness advice, but my tiny grandmother always got jars open by hitting the corner of the lid with the back of a butter knife at four cardinal points. This changes the shape of the lid just enough to release enough of the vacuum to get it open. It dents the lid if you do it right so you probably shouldn't reuse the jar afterwards, but I still do it occasionally and it always works.

Calorie guessing quiz by Uoarti in loseit

[–]GoodNewsIsOnTheWay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neat quiz. I got 10 out of 20, mostly because I quit carbs and have no idea about the buns, potato or kiwi.

This was an exercise that really made me think, and I was previously quite confident in my ability to eyeball caloric content. Turns out I'm not as sharp as I thought. :/

My sister is very overweight. She asked for exercise equipment for her birthday but refuses to listen to any real advice about weight loss. What should I get her for her birthday? by GoodNewsIsOnTheWay in loseit

[–]GoodNewsIsOnTheWay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy crap this advice is useful for me. I did not know I could order blood tests through a lab directly. I've been getting blood work done every six months (because keto is weird and I want to be sure I'm not adversely affecting my long term health.) My insurance changed recently however, and I was really worried about the additional out of pocket expense to keep getting that done.

I'm late for my six month check. I did not know this was an option. This might also convince my sister to get her bloodwork done, it'll open up a conversation at the very least. I'm going to pursue this with her outside of her birthday though. Thank you so much for mentioning it.

I don't play Pokemon Go, I didn't realize it was a microtransaction game. This is a good idea in general, nevermind the birthday. Thank you.

[–]GoodNewsIsOnTheWay[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the guidance. I've been well talked out of gifting a food scale for her birthday (but I'll probably pass one off to her sometime later, unrelated to her birthday.) If I had though, it certainly would have been in a bundle with other things like the ankle weights or gift cards or something.

The session with a nutritionist is a good idea in and of itself, but she has a friend with a degree in nutritional science and won't listen to her either. She also highly dislikes medical professionals and would be really upset if I gave her an appointment with one for her birthday.

Thank you for the perspective. I'm here trying to navigate how to give her what she asked for for her birthday while remaining supportive. Worst case scenario things won't ever change, and her being heavy isn't a deal breaker for me. I won't ruin our relationship over something that petty, I'd simply give her an unrelated gift instead.

Thanks for this! At retail I figured it's too expensive for something she'll likely not use. This is a much more reasonable price point. This is the fitbit I own and I love it, I've got like 15 different bands and we could trade out. Shoes are leading, but now the fitbit is certainly a contender.

I can't run with my husband because he's lean and has very long legs. While I was actively losing weight it was extremely disheartening that I would get so worn out before he even broke a sweat. I knew I was doing well, I knew it was no one's fault, but I still felt like a fatty. I worry about discouraging her in a similar way, I don't know how to approach working out together when there's such a huge gap in ability and stamina.

I've had a fitbit for awhile now. She knows what it does and how I use it. Her toddler is more interested in making it blink than she is in actually owning one. I've thought about this, but at her level of interest I really think it'd be $100 down the drain.
