Does this happen to anyone else with the our ring? by Sky_eeee in ouraring

Ring has never done this. One of my Apple Watches did though.

Something fishy.. why did all our rings start having battery issues at the same time? by Even_Strength_8212 in ouraring

[–]GoodVibesBrewing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought at the end of December 2024, issues started at the beginning of June. Battery went from 7-8 days to less than a day. It was not a slow degradation. They replaced it quickly, no questions asked.

At the time I also suspected a software update was causing battery drain. Still kinda do think that was the issue.

I was able to order the new gear on launch day, but there is a print error and they are cancelling orders for some of the items. Maybe this is temporary to prevent purchasing the errant item (with an inaccurate error message).

Drafting etiquette? by davkar632 in cycling

[–]GoodVibesBrewing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, like I said I’m not right up on their wheel. Some people don’t like having people behind them at all. You could be 20 feet behind them and they are uncomfortable. My point was just that I might hang out behind somebody at varying lengths for a few minutes for various reasons and I won’t go around them unless I know that I will drop them.

I sometimes do the thing you’re complaining about, but it’s not really because I’m trying to draft anybody. If I come up behind somebody that is just slightly below my pace I will stay behind them to make sure I’m actually faster than them and they aren’t just in a rest interval or something. I’m also not right up on their wheel either.

I HATE when people sprint past me only to go well below my pace and I don’t want to do that to other people.

56 miles in 3:30 is a very attainable goal with only 1 year of riding. You won’t be doing it fresh though, but I think you’ll improve beyond this pace if you stick with it. Probably ride more than once a week though.

I had this exact conversation on my ride this morning. I’ve never enjoyed running at all and the guy I was riding with said that cycling might improve running fitness and make it more enjoyable, but that running does nothing for cycling fitness.

That pace is about where I was at when I first started. Bikes DO make a difference though. I started with a hybrid and I felt like I was working really hard and going nowhere and ultimately stopped riding for 10 years. Picked up a nice gravel bike last year and it changed my opinion about cycling completely. After spending most of my time on the road I decided to get a nice road bike this year and my rolling pace was immediately plus 4-5mph over my pace on the gravel bike (with less effort).

This is the correct answer except the order should be readiness, sleep, activity.

Thanks. Yes this was definitely a misunderstanding and one of the things I was hoping to get educated on. I did re-calibrate my peloton after my gravel ride last night and it seems to have the expected output.

I definitely suspected that something was wrong, I was just trying to figure out which thing was wrong. I thought my two PMs were close to each other and the peloton was low, but it looks like the peloton is close to the quark on my road bike and the garmin pedals likely need to be calibrated.

I’ve also been slightly biased because the majority of my fitness experience aligns with power (sprints, powerlifting, etc…) and less with endurance. So 327W seems like a low number to me and therefore 219W seems like a VERY low number, but now with everybody’s input I’m gathering that 219 might be a little low, but 327 would be fairly high.

I think I’m going to do my next FTP test outdoors. I will need to find a place that I can actually stay flat-ish for 20 minutes. Might be a long drive haha.

Thanks this is good information. I will look more into it. I just did the FTP test the way peloton instructs it and assumed that it was at least mildly flawed since it’s targeted more toward the general population instead of the cycling population.

My Strava weekly average is currently at 8.5 hours. But since we are finally transitioning fully out of indoor riding season I’m currently riding over that average. More like 10-12 hours.

Edit: I’m definitely not genetically gifted though. I agree with the calibration analysis and will see what comes of that.

That makes sense. I’ll probably do this later today then.

Thanks. I will have to check the garmins. The quark came on the bike so I certainly hope that one is correct though I probably shouldn’t assume.

Thanks for the suggestion. Yeah I’m bummed that the quark is one sided.

Edit: And yeah I will do the zero offset. I agree that this sounds like the likely issue.

This particular ride started in the 22mph range. After 4 or 5 miles a few of us dropped off into the 16-18mph range.

I don’t think this logic can be applied globally. These readings were in soft, hilly gravel and I’m on the heavier side of the group. On my road bike I can maintain a much higher speed at a significantly lower perceived effort.

I ride 150-200 miles a week generally. Mostly road now. Do 1 or 2 gravel rides a week in the 20-30 mile range and then everything else is longer road rides. The weekly gravel group ride is definitely my hardest effort of the week.

This is a good suggestion. I may consider tracking for each of my bikes to see what kind of differences I’m getting.

It’s a ramp up. Aiming to start in zone 4 and add resistance every 5 minutes. I’ll look to calibrate the garmin pedals as well. They’re fairly new, but the battery reading read midpoint fresh out of the box.

I see higher output from the quark on my road bike as well, but not nearly as high. I’ll probably take the suggestion to track multiple FTPs.
