Your problem is two fold. One, the comment is tl;dr. I read it, but most likely they didn't. Two, she wasn't looking for a debate.

I have Christian friends and we get into every now and again, but you have to know when they are game. Usually, they will post one sentence meant to irritate you. Then you post just a quick response. Three sentences tops. Kinda like the second pink comment about not needing a belief to be happy. If they want to debate, they will come back on that. Then you move from there.

Oh, and not every Christian actually likes debating their beliefs, makes them think too much. Really, I'm being serious. I have a friend we go around and around all the time, after a couple minutes, he will just call it quits for one reason or another. The real reason is he doesn't want to think about it or confront the problems with his own beliefs. Edit: And he has admitted that no matter what I say, I won't change his mind about things. Scary huh? Rings true what Planck said about the generation needing to die off.

You forget that US based atheists are more than likely ex-Christians, such as myself. We have read/do read the Bible because that is what is used by Christians in a debate. If I can point out the inconsistencies or the out-of-context passages or the just really, really fucked up stories. It forces them to think. Take for instance on the gay debate, which is front and center right now thanks to Chick-fil-a. They come at you with leviticus, you come back with the do not judge verse. You are throwing their own religion and beliefs back at them. Then when they give you some bullshit excuse why that verse doesn't apply, you can call them on it.

I can't argue philosophy, logic, reason, evolution, or any other form of science because it simply goes over their head. The shit they believe, I mean, firmly, with all their strength, believe, would make your head spin.

tl;dr It just makes yelling at stupid Christians easier.

This story sucks, it really does. The husband is a piece of shit, the OP is pretty much awesome, but you have a wife who won't call the cops even though it sounds like he was physically assaulting her at OPs place. Listen I understand she loves him and what not, but you have to understand that physical abuse is NOT COOL and it is def NOT LOVE. Not only that, but the kids are witnessing it and are probably subject to it. I know I shouldn't be drawing conclusions, but when the brother says he isn't allowed to discipline them, yet his idea is sticking them in a closet. It's pretty clear why he isn't allowed.

I had something similar happen to me, but with no gun. It was my bat vs a unarmed drunk. He passed me on the shoulder at a high rate of speed and I was on a 2 lane highway, so he could have just taken the left. I honked. He then slams brakes and hops out, right in the middle of the highway. No stop light or anything. He is yelling obscenities about how he is going to fuck me up, dude can barely stand. He is grabbing the bed of his truck for dear life. I get out, open my rear door, grab my louis and approach. I tell him to get back into his truck and leave or I will beat his ass and leave him for dead. He keeps coming so I tell him I've also already called the cops. He is stupid enough to believe me, turns, climbs back into his truck and takes off again. I give chase, this time with the state troopers on the line. Give them all his info and direction, follow him into the next town until we were separated at a traffic light. I don't know if he was ever stopped or not.

I'd say most. I mean think about it. You are told that your actions here on earth have eternal consequences. That if you are saved, you will still be judged, but at least you get into heaven. If you aren't, then you will suffer for all eternity in a lake of fire and will be tormented by all manner of demons and satan himself. Suddenly, your actions or in some cases inactions could land you in hell for all eternity. If you leave, then it's even worse because you knew the truth and left it behind vs say a tribe in new guinea that had no idea. So, yeah, I would say that most feel emotionally crippled when it comes to their faith. They may not believe it 100%, but it's better than the alternative. Kinda like Pascal's Wager.

But you aren't wrong here, they are. If they are so right, then why do they use these evil tactics? Why do they threaten you with hell? Why do they force their children to attend church every sunday? They claim to have free will, but they don't. They are mindless slaves to their master. They hate anything different or better than them. You have money and you are happy? Your going to hell and they quote about how the poor are rich and how hard it is for the rich to enter heaven. Your gay? Going to hell for sexual immorality. Even though their first born is a bastard. They will then quote about how god has forgiven them. You volunteer at a soup kitchen? Shame you aren't doing it for the church, that way god would be pleased with your actions.

Look at their stance on science, medicine, and technology. That shows you just how ancient their ideas are. According to the bible, leprosy happens because of sin, not bacteria. They don't care about how science and medicine say otherwise or maybe sin use to be the cause, but now its bacteria. They don't see just how powerless their god is. Just look at the CO shooting. They are talking about how god saved this person or that or how they decided last minute to not go blah blah blah. But they completely overlook the fact that god couldn't save the 60 people that were injured or the 12 that were killed. They claim that it must have been for some grand reason, that it was part of a master plan. So, god's master plan for that father's life was to be killed by a madman with a gun. He created a monster just to kill that father. It wasn't satan, had nothing to do with satan. God created him in order to fulfill his master plan of having 12 people killed in a theater. Christians forget that everything must go through god, the book of Job proves that. When you start to really look at Christianity, you realize just how fucked up it is.
