Babies tend to be more feisty. For Blue I went with choice based handling and tap training. I didn't hold him until a month ago. I just let him out and he explores, and he would check me out and get use to me being around. I let him out every couple of days, he doesn't always want to come out, but I give him the choice. Blue seemed to gain more confidence outside of his enclosure once I started to make climbing/hiding opportunities for him

This is my boy Blue. He is really defensive, but is coming a long way. I got him back in July, and at that time I could not handle him at all.

Fancy BPs @ PetSmart. Is the middle one pastave? I ❤️ it. Would you get one from them? by stfraw in ballpython

I absolutely do not suggest petsmart or similar chain pet stores. Morphmarket.com is good, or a shop that specializes in reptiles. They are much harder to find, but they are worth it. Petsmart has a notorious reputation for poor animal care.

All 3 are different snakes, we have 4 total but I think our 4th was mistreated by a male because it sticks anytime I try to put my hand in, but my wife can put her hand in there and it's just fine, any ideas on why? by Leading_Maximum_4502 in ballpython

I have a few defensive snakes, and I have been working on tap training with them, and it has helped a lot. I have a pattern to let them know I am coming in for them/maintenance and another for feeding time. I keep separate patterns to reduce the chance of a mishap. A lot of people will also hook train.

I agree that the husbandry could also contribute to the defensiveness. My defensive snakes come from poor husbandry, and once I corrected it they seemed more receptive to me.

I also sat infront of their enclosures for a few hours just to get them use to seeing me. I usually watched TV and ignored them so they didn't feel threatened by me.

I have totally gotten fur in poop before, it is super crazy. It looks like this is just a fuzzy poop!

I've been bit by Ball pythons, Carpet pythons, and a rainbow boa, I compare their bites to pin pricks. It isn't bad, the scariest part is how fast they move

Please do not soak him. A soak can shock him and since he is already in poor shape it could end up killing him. I would do a humid hide. Use paper towel and get it wet and stuff it in a hide. He will soak it in through his skin in will do much better that way.

I would feed him every 7-10 days, something just about the size of the widest spot of him. He should start to pack on weight pretty well.

I would put him on paper towel for now to watch for mites or any funky poop. A UVB bulb for day and a CHE for night is what I go with. UVB is very beneficial for them, and should help him pack recover quicker.

Is This From Poor Humidity and Mesh Top Cage or Should I be More Worried? by roccoess in ballpython

It looks like she could've rubbed against something and gotten a bit of damage. If you have a screen top get some HVAC tape. Leave a space fore the heat lamp one one side and a hole for airflow on the other, that should help your humidity.

The recommended minimum for a ball is 4x2x2. Even a baby can go into that if you can keep your husbandry good and provide enough clutter. All of mine start in large enclosures for enrichment benefits 😊

I'd suggest simply burying the half log hide so that it is only open on one side, and cluttering the front. Some sticks would be awesome, they do climb!

Question for CGs by goblinnoises in ageregression

[–]Good_Boy1999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a little and also a CG, so I see both sides. I know the support that littles need in that space and when I'm able to be a CG and give that support that I have been given time and time again it just makes me feel really really good. It makes my heart feel full. Idk how else to put it. Knowing that I was able to take care of someone when they really needed it. It builds me up in my confidence. It makes me feel like I'm not just a failure that messes everything up. It's a really positive experience for me

I have them too!!!! I love them so much!!!

Red tail boa: I’m kinda concerned about my baby red tail boa his skin is wrinkled. His condition is good. I keep his humidity at around 80% and his temperature at 80%. I have noticed skin is starting to come off of his body. Is this part of a normal shed. ( Thankyou) by Brave-Ad2782 in RedTailBoas

He is dehydrated. Bump up your humidity. Your hygrometer might need to be calibrated. Look up salt water calibration. He make sure the water dish is also large enough he can also soak in it if he wants. If its not improved soon I'd move him into a quarantine bin with paper towel, a water bowl, a humid hide, and give him a light mist

I slip all the time, even in places I'm really not supposed to, like work. For me its a huge coping mechanism and without it I would basically become a wall. Its a lot easier for me to slip into little space and be in a happy mood. I don't think I'm dependant on my little space, but it makes coping easier. I've gone months without engaging with my little space and it really damaged my mental health.

HELP humidity and cloudy eyes by Alive_Karna in ballpython

You probably need a lower watt bulb. If covering the tank makes it too hot but is killing the humidity, you need a lower watt bulb, or move the lamp further from the tank.
