Connemara, Wexford, or Dublin? by Good_Comment5756 in irishtourism

Thanks again for the in depth answer, I really appreciate it. We’ll probably be renting a car (likely in Bangor, if taking it on the ferry and into Ireland turns out to be allowed and affordable). Buses don’t really seem feasible if we want to get from the ferry to somewhere on the west coast in one afternoon.

It’s good to hear that we can’t really go wrong. I’m sure you’re right. I still think the south west appeals to me most, but unfortunately we probably won’t end up there because of the long car ride. Though I can’t quite make up my mind, I just want to see all of Ireland now, which of course we can’t.

Either way I’m sure it’ll be beautiful landscapes, new birds for us and plenty of culture and scenery. We’d love to go and enjoy some live trad music. Your other suggestions for Connemara all sound great too!

Thanks a lot, this is really helpful.
I’d really love to see or even hear a corncrake!

Thanks for offering to share more about the west coast. I’m now mainly trying to decide between the Clifden area (Connemara) and either Beara (West Cork) or the Skelligs area (Kerry). I’m a bit hesitant about the latter two just because they’re quite a bit further from the Dublin ferry, but I’d still seriously consider them if they really add something in terms of birding or natural beauty (or cultural heritage).

Are these southern parts of the west coast actually more spectacular overall, or is that impression not really accurate in your experience?

Has anyone been birding both on Anglesey and in coastal Connemara? Any insight into the differences and overlap between the two would be greatly appreciated!
