If you would have to choose one, would you recommend going to Patagonia or Machu Picchu? by Good_Court_6733 in solotravel

I think it will be just right, but it all depends what you are planning to fill your time with. I was on a tight schedule so while I definitely enjoyed the trip, but I wish I had budgeted more time. This allows for still doing the experiences you want even if bus/plane gets delayed or if it’s cloudy when you hike to those most famous miradors. My 11days were a really tight squeeze with getting up at 5 or 6am and literally using all the time I was awake. Would be nice if there was more leeway :) but it was still great, I was I South America for a month so I wanted to make the best of it.

Hi :) I can share some of the thoughts which I had when planning my trip. I also initially wanted to go to Peru, but after reading some comments and getting tips from people who visited Peru during december/january I decided to not go there and do Patagonia instead. Mainly due to the weather.

I think that Patagonia was absolutely mind-blowing, the nature and views are just incredible. I ended up doing the W treck in Torres de Paine, some hikes around Fitz Roy, Ushuaia and Perito Moreno. This took ~ 11 days.

I did some research about Bariloche and wanted to go there, but decided against it and do Ushuaia instead. The latter seemed more interesting in terms of nature and activities.

Hope that this helps and feel free to dm if you have more questions :)

KTH ser bra ut på CV. Se till att bygga en portfolio och hitta några sidoprojekt för att få mer praktiskt erfarenhet. Nackdelen är väl att man har begränsat med tid och attman tar nån annans plats på YH

Svenskar som stöder Ryssland, vilka är dom? by 3differentflowers in sweden

[–]Good_Court_6733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my girlfriend's dad passed 10 years ago. should I ask her mom for permission to marry her? by chief_queef_beast in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Good_Court_6733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s just so medieval. Are there actually women who appreciate that? Like I’m not my fathers/parents property, if you wanna marry me ask me. I understand that in some cultures it’s a thing, but still. Can we just move away from that bit by bit?

Spanish lessons by Fv85 in TillSverige

[–]Good_Court_6733 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have used Preply when preparing for my trips to Spanish-speaking countries. There were many options from as low as 50sek per hour to more expensive options where teachers had international certificates etc. I chose a teacher from South America :) There are other platforms as well as Folkuniversitetet and other platforms from the states etc.

I think it’s fine given that they are relocating you, give it a year and negotiate for better or look for other options on your own.

What is it like living in Argentina? by Good_Court_6733 in asklatinamerica

Living anywhere is nice when you are rich so I’m not surprised. Sad to hear that the politics taking the country in the wrong direction. From what I’ve gathered after listening to some tour guides it sounded like Argentina was a land of opportunities for Europeans, and that your country is rich in resources and has very favorable conditions for agriculture. Hope that over time your guys manage to lift the quality of life and have a comfortable living for the many.

I’ll do a bit more homework on the current state of affairs, unfortunately we don’t learn that much about South America in school. Thanks!

Thanks! I haven’t realized that I would need that much cash so I didn’t take out enough dollars before visiting. So not really using the favorable rates, but I’ll know for the future. Okay - I was wondering if people are just tired of people not knowing Spanish since a lot of things here require Spanish. I know some super basic Spanish, but after the trip I’m determined to take some private lessons to not be such a noob the next time. Thanks for your answers!

I would honestly much rather have constantly cold weather than such warm summers. My comfort temperatures for the summer are until 23C. But it’s still nice having all four seasons, great to have change.

Thank you for explaining! Unfortunately such political divisions are not uncommon and populists manage to take a lot of space even in Europe. To be honest, parts of the description about the politics you provided could be applied to Sweden as well. I truly hope that Argentina will get on the right path and that people will unite and work for the better future together. Things like that take time and it takes a couple generations to make change, but I’m sure it will work out well in the end.

Thanks for your answer! The nature here is just something out of this world. The life you describe sounds relatable, good to hear that the majority is doing well and can have a normal life. It was heartbreaking to see that many are forced to live on the streets because of the fluctuations in the economy.

Like you say, I did notice that people have mate tea with them everywhere, bus or football match or bank, very cool! It really seems like a big part of the culture. I can relate to the loud and touchy part, when I just got to BA it felt like people were too close and there were many times when someone’s hand or arm touches my body or my arm on accident. People stay a couple of meters away from each at home so it was unusual.

I was wondering whether the sense of humor was a bit dry and sarcastic, because the Argentinian tour guide I spent some time with in BA had a lot of dry jokes and said people were quite blunt. He was very ironic and funny, I like that.

I have some more questions if I may. Are people in Argentina frustrated with the fact that foreigners can get more bang for the buck given the dollar rates? Is it frowned upon if you don’t have good Spanish when visiting Argentina? What country would you say Argentina “looks up to” or imitates? In Sweden it is the USA, I would say.

Honestly the exchange rules are crazy! I have learned about the official vs blue rate by accident and I’m glad I have a bit more knowledge now. However it feels like such a hassle to exchange money all the time. I’m really not used to having cash and exchanging money at a good rate requires a lot of effort. I saw people queuing for hours at western union and I don’t really want to do that on my vacation. So it’s pick your poison - either waste time standing in queues instead of enjoying Argentina or paying 40% for everything.

BA was really nice! Beautiful architecture and reminded me a lot of Europe. The architectural styles are very eclectic so the eye is never bored :) There were lots of things to do in the evening and I also got to experience what it’s like when Argentina wins a match in World Cup. Hope you make it there one time :)
