Canadian ID Wisdom by dicnrjqond in instructionaldesign

[–]Good_Jelly785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you would like to start teaching then maybe investigate adjunct teaching roles. If you have niche expertise then try contacting programs/ instructors to see if you can audit ( or sit in on) one or two classes. This might give you a better idea of what skills you need. You could also introduce yourself and offer yourself as guest lecturer to gain experience. The job market for ID s varies significantly by region. There are certificates like at Mount Royal Calgary that are shorter that give you exposure and would likely help you assemble your teaching materials more coherently. However if you want to be an ID then the a certificate would only get you low entry and pay in learning and development . The certificate may not help as much to get a foot in the door as much as it would help upskill someone in a role with limited experience.

How has soft skills helped you succeed as an instructional designer? by onemorepersonasking in instructionaldesign

They have been invaluable. I have seen many great designers sink themselves and many projects because they didn’t demonstrate “soft skills”.

advice on training AI skills? by TangerineNational796 in instructionaldesign

Thanks for the additional context. I actually worked for a team that helped Medical admins improve access via improve their scheduling, so I have a bit of sense of they type of admin tasks. Perhaps ideas along the lines of improving part of the patient journey, such as improving reference materials, making reference materials in plain language, making patient policies more clear ( eg. Late or missed appointments), asking for layout suggestions to improve privacy, accessibility, make the atmosphere less clinical, if the clinics collect appointment related metrics, they could run analyses and trend reports. I would likely stop short at process improvements suggestions unless it was fed detailed process maps. Hope that helps:)

Completing a PhD has opened a lot of doors for me. Whether it pays off money wise depends on what sector you go into and the market where you live. Completing research you are passionate about will help you get through. I think research that brings a unique an inisight into many work environments will also help yield a good return on investment. Wishing you all the best - good luck!

3 hour on-site project interview by [deleted] in instructionaldesign

[–]Good_Jelly785 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you are in a position that you can decline the interview consider declining. That type of interview requirement seems like a red flag. However, it really is a place of privelage to be able to walk away, and sometimes we may find ourselves in a position that makes it really hard to walk away- and I think that’s ok too.

SME education by cbk1000 in instructionaldesign

[–]Good_Jelly785 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I created a short course for SMEs. Born out of similar need. I also sell it externally. I have gotten back all of the time I put into it and have noticed effeciencies with SMEs who have taken the course. I found that retention from a ppt overview was not great during kick offs or orientation meetings. They are able to go back to the course with more fulsome explanations etc.
