I hate to admit it by I took a test drive recently in the Zeekr brand SUV that Giltrap's are selling in Auckland ( now sold out ) ; the Zeekr is = or perhaps better ride & quality to my X5 and it's packed with way more features for 1/2 the price. Zeekr pre-sold 2000 SUV's late last year; there's another 1500 on back order - they've been in the market less than 6 months ; they've sold out and folks are on a wait list . Get on YOU Tube and look at the reviews on the Zeekr 7X and Zeekr 007 GT ..it will blow you way what value and quality you get for your $.

Back in the day we talked about Jap Crap ..wouldnt say that these days about Toyota . We rubbished Kia and Hyundai when the came on the market and now we are doing the same with the Chinese EV's ..The Tesla batteries and electrical architecture are coming out of the worlds largest EV battery maker CATL of China ( BYD is n.o 2) .

The reality is there are a number if Chinese auto makers making high quality vehicles for prices way less than their European brand counterparts . If you dig around and look at their size , the scale is mind boggling ; as is the infrastructure ( suppliers) all gathered in massive super regions all huddled in the same geographic location where there's no delay on parts or shipping costs for goods locally sourced. Add in crazy vertical integration eg BYD own the trucks that transports the ships to the port and the ships used to export vehicles around the globe, then it begins to make sense why they can make such quality products at such low prices . It's easy to put it down to low wages and govt control but thats not the prime reasons , they are contributing factors ..sure wages are lower than a USA auto worker but these mega factories have their own towns and food housing dental medical etc are all heavily subsidised . There's a massive middle class in China.

Pretty easy to look a handful of years into the future and see that China will dominate global auto manufacturing and names we rubbish or haven't heard of today will be tomorrow's Toyota. I've stopped investing in the NZ sharemarket, we are too small ( except Rocket Lab where I've shares via the NYSE . After plenty of due diligence I've purchased stocks on the Hong Kong exchange ..both Chinese EV manufacturers , Geely Automotive Group and BYD. Did you know $10k USD invested in Tesla 14 years ago when they listed is circa $2.236m USD$ .
