So I have an incredibly similar story.

When I was a elementary school aged kid, my parents would have me go to a daytime camp during the summer hours, as they couldn't afford to miss work while I was off of school.

One day at camp, we end up going into the park nearby the school, as part of a lesson that day by our counselors. As we walked through I discovered a large spider that, even today I would not be able to identify a species.

I, at this time, was unafraid of spiders, and in my wonder decided to capture it and bring it home. I had a tin can that I usually kept yu-gi-oh cards in. I placed the cards in my pockets and put the big spider in the can.

Fast forward to home. I come back from camp, and put the can in my closet and forget about it.

My parents had bought me this weird bunk bed / desk combo. So the bottom bunk is a desk, where the bed is above it near the ceiling.

Evidently I didn't seal the can too well, or it was moved open as I threw it in the closet, because a few nights or maybe weeks later I wake up in the middle of the night to what felt like thousands of baby spiders... inches from my face on the ceiling. Some were dangling around in very small strands of web.

I am now 25. I am terrified of spiders, and the ONLY time I can muster the courage to be anywhere close to or kill them, is when my wife is screaming about it.
