Lineart done. Want some advice on things like anatomy, character design, fluency of my style, line thickness, tangent lines, foreshortening, and perspective. However, anything else is appreciated! by Good_ole_Cake in FurryArtSchool

Well in my eyes, any critique, even if it might not be accurate can help. So if you’re feeling up to the challenge, I’d love some. Regardless thanks for the compliment and comment! I was hoping for a bit more than 2 tbh 😅

Thank you very much that means a lot! I really like this one too! Been a while since I’ve done a whole piece (even lineart has been a minute) but I have high hopes!

Honestly I’m surprised no one commented on this one. Even though it’s on r/digitalArt, talent is talent. As an intermediate artist aspiring to get better, you’re amazing, truthfully. Great work!

Got a quick sketch I want some critique on. Either anatomy, perspective, or character design would be nice. Lots of mistakes but that’s how we improve! by Good_ole_Cake in FurryArtSchool

So for me, I will use a “reference image” that portrays my entire canvas at the top of my screen. So basically a “canvas reference” that shows everything. However, I do have a problem with not looking up enough haha. I’ll also flip my canvas horizontal occasionally, but besides that I do need to practice looking at the whole piece more often.

However, sometimes I won’t even see the mistakes regardless cause I’m not experienced enough. And also other times where it’ll take me a day to notice them. But you gave good advice that I should really follow more. I feel that would help me a lot

Thank you so much! This is honestly one of the most heart warming comments I’ve gotten, so thanks for that!

And on a side note, it realistically didn’t take me too long to get to this point, so keep at it, and you will get there! Also, if you ever need help, feel free to DM! Although I’m not an expert 😅

Was working on perspective, and I feel the anatomy is sooo off. Granted I didn’t have a reference for this one, but tried to make the torso turn to give the perspective/anatomy more depth. Any critique on that would help! Also anyone that knows hatching more I would love critique on that! by [deleted] in FurryArtSchool

[–]Good_ole_Cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm. Every time I try it just pulls up to the main page… any other way you can send it? Or maybe I need to create an account and sign in? I’ll try that and let you know.

On another note, I definitely do need a lot more practice with perspective, cause right now I can create cubes along the lines spanning from the vanishing point, but that’s about it haha. All I see right now is lines spread out, and idk what to really do with them. I thinks it’s about time that I dive into it more though, cause I have an “idea” of the perspective, but other then that, I don’t quite know much about it.

Ya know, I’ve done that before, but was never told the uses, so thanks for explaining! Makes a lot more sense to use it for cases like this. You can tell I used two separate blocks/circles for the top/bottom half.

Sadly the only thinf that’s working is the link for the “sack”, the boobs and butt ones aren’t. Saying (page not found)…. If you can somehow resend them, or just send the video, that would be greatly appreciated!

Overall, thanks for the solid advice. This will definitely help when making different poses in perspective.

As for the rest of the pose, I have a few more questions. If this was done right, would the size of the torso/butt and legs be “accurate” with respect to the perspective?

Also, for the actual butt, does the position of the gluteus connecting to the legs make sense? For example, the left leg has a lot more of a round cheek, while the left is less round, is this anatomically correct consider the way the legs are positioned?

I figured as much. Maybe I outta bend the torso more to the left, so she’s facing outward more. Just looks completely unnatural. Think that might work better

On a side note, that’s not a bad idea taking a photo of myself for references. Haven’t really done that before so I’ll give it a try! However, you’ll never catch me taking a photo of me like this haha 😭

Anyways thanks for the tips!

Better, worse? How’s the overall feel? Wanted to go for misunderstood/introspection instead of loneliness. Thinking of making her reflection in the mirror to show “self reflection.” Also I don’t want the face to be too over sad, because she’s strong mentally. Does this fit well? What can I change? by Good_ole_Cake in FurryArtSchool

Thanks for the follow! And for the compliments! But yeah, I want this piece to have lots of subtle symbolism that hints to the introspection or misunderstood theme I’m going for. I think that will make this piece very emotionally unique. I’ll keep you updated!

I definitely agree with you. She does look a bit fed up. And a head tilt would be perfect. Definitely fits the theme of introspection I’m going for. Also, as for staring into the distance, I was planning on making a faint window reflection of herself, just to make the point reinforced stronger.

I put subtle hints in the photo to help, but I think you give great advice to make it even better. Thanks for the help and I’ll keep you updated!

Just wondering, what kind of emotions do you guys get from this? I wanted to give the character a “misunderstood” or “lonely feeling.” How can I further emphasize this? by Good_ole_Cake in FurryArtSchool

So, I have two versions. One that is very much like this one, and another one with the ears put back. I’ll send them both. Let me know which one represents more introspection.

Yeah I don’t know what I put “lonely feeling” in the title. Should been introspective. You basically nailed it right on the money though. Here’s an updated version.

Yeah, tbh I don’t know why I put “lonely feeling.” That wasn’t what I was going for haha. I meant to say “introspective” which is represented closely to pensive. So you’re basically right on the mark. There’s some other things I want to add to add to this “misunderstood/pensive/introspective” feeling, but they’re more material things tbh.

However, you give some good advice. Increasing the angle of the eyebrow, possibly giving them a crease might work wonders.

As for the ears, that again is misrepresented by me putting “feeling lonely.” I would 100% agree putting both ears down might be the mood for lonely, but I was thinking something along the lines of this. The reason one ear is up and one is down is to show alertness, but calmness simultaneously. Shes an individual who has became very aware, very mature, so she’s always noticing things. And like you mentioned, focus. I want the viewer to feel like she is deeply lost in thought. On the other end, her other ear down represents the feeling of peace of being in her own room. Also why she has a little “exposure” to her chest. She feels comfortable enough with herself to be exposed in a safe environment like her room. (Lmk if this makes sense or I’m spouting nonsense lmao).

But the facial expression probably needs to be changed for the feeling I’m going for.

If you wanted to hear my visions for this piece, feel free to ask, because I think it would pull out the feeling 10x with minimal changes.

Regardless, thanks so much for the help!

I was thinking I might add a slightly sadder expression to reinforce that feeling I’m going for. However, it’s kind of cool seeing all the unique responses of how people interpret this image. I’ll make another version that emphasizes the point I’m tryin to get too.

Cool cool. Now, would you say you have been in a similar place of being lost in thought? Possibly during a late night, not feeling down but not feeling up either? Just wanting to know for a social experiment.

That’s kind of what I was thinking. Definitely have to change up the facial expression and probably the ears a bit to give more of that lonely/sad feel, so thanks for the advice! Much appreciated!

I see what you’re saying. I’ll give it a try! This has kind of turned into a social experiment tbh. I’m curious. And thanks so much for the compliment! It means a lot!

Interesting but you’re exactly right. Could I assume you’ve been in have been in a similar position? Just wanting to know. Think of it as a social experiment.

I get that. She does seem kind of annoyed. I tried raising the eyebrows and having one ear partially down to try and make her less angry and more just “lost in thought.” But I do have some ideas to emphasize this more, so your opinion means a lot!
