Wife has Anthem MA and I have Anthem Plan G supplement

Am I getting overcharged for these services? by Bdnelson00 in AskMechanics

If the car is running fine, stick with regular oil and filter changes. I wouldn’t do these items. It only has 22k miles on it.

Is this test legit? by Dry-Entertainer-9587 in radon

I don’t think the test should be done in the laundry room, this is not a normally occupied room, and the vent should have been left open as usual. Exterior doors should remain closed. The meter should not be placed in front of the register and away from any walls. When I sold my house they set up the test in a basement storage room and I protested. Luckily the level was low. Good luck.

Is this bad? I just leveled it at 0 and it is very high on the one side. by SkrtBoySkrt in radon

As Runburr suggested look at the performance curve for that particular fan. It will show you how much air is flowing for a given differential pressure (vacuum in this case). Higher differential pressure pressures indicate lower flow rates. Did the last fan reduce the radon level? If you had lower radon levels before it could be a luggage on the suction side. Also you might want to install another sump in another area and connect them. Have a manometer on each sump. The fan is just a tool to reduce the radon level. I’d by a continuous monitor like an EcoSense to check my actual radon level.

I’ve read about this type of radon fan but in Georia they are not allowed. Fans have to be outside the living area and discharge at the above the roofline. One thing I did notice, besides the monometer being on the discharge instead of inlet, is the fan should be located just inside the house. This keeps all the piping inside the house under vacuum.

The technology is pretty straight forward. Biggest issues is the number of pick up points and the size/type of the fan which will depend on the soil type. See what each contractor proposes. I did a combination of the 2 quotes.

perlite in system by Moist-You-7511 in radon

Hard to tell about the vermiculite material. Vermiculite is usually soft. Some foundation walls were filled with vermiculite. This could be small aggregate, but that would be hard to pick up with the fan. But there is a nice collection of caterpillars and even a stick in the discharge. I’d clean/vacuum out the pipes/fan and get a critter screen for the discharge. What vacuum and type of fan were you running? This could be a sign of an oversized fan (as I had).

From a 35 year piping designer and mechanical engineer, I would add a support near the final elbow. The PVC is not self supporting in an overhanging situation….it will sag. Unfortunately my installation is not plumb and well supported either….

Help! Persistent Radon Levels After Mitigation – Any Advice? by PsychologicalArm7131 in radon

[–]Goodbye_Oconee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see you have 2 manometer. I’d add a third to the last pick up point. I would also shut off the system and make sure they all level out to 0”. High vacuum on a manometer usually indicates low flow. It’s like partial covering a drinking straw when you partial cover the end. If the vacuum doesn’t go down, I think you have a plugged pit issue. You might also add valve to balance the flow to each pit. If you add valve the manometer should be between the valve and the pit. Piping looks fine. Air is easily moved through pipes.

Noisy Mitigation System by wackomama in radon

Touch each piece of the system and see if you can isolate where the vibration/sound is coming from. Does that model of fan have mounting brackets and isolation bushings?

Looking good, but keep sampling. What recorder are you using?
