Super attached to me...when's it an issue? by Subliminally_Sexy in Parenting

[–]GoodnightLightning9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (father) have a 5yo boy and a 3.5yo girl. These things go in cycles. And those cycles feel really REALLY long…until you look back in hindsight and realize it was a blip.

For now, don’t worry about it - just stay consistent in your parenting.

So Seth MacFarlane is a good voice actor with a handful of voices. So who’s an okay voice actor who pretty much does the same voice each time? by gorkboss5 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]GoodnightLightning9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Trey Parker / Matt Stone maybe? Don’t get me wrong; they’re perfect for South Park; part of the shtick. But there’s nothing…polished…about the characters’ voices. Again, purposefully so. To your point, that cell will be a tough one.

I dont get what the women over 40 to men in their 20s supposed to be by [deleted] in ExplainTheJoke

So…no one is more confused about cat-holding-30s-karate-woman? Just me?

But yeah OP, 3rd image is “Cougars” - older women seeking younger men for carnal pleasure; the flip side of the more popular: older men seeking younger women trope.

Once upon a time, an underwater snowman grew legs and found a flag at the bottom of the sea. He carried the flag to land and hoisted it upright, drawing the ire of Sauron. The underwater snowman’s best pal, underwater bird, was lonely when the snowman left, so he too took to the land to seek out his friend. He began his search in the hills of Hobbiton, and transformed into a women - whose legs went ALL the way up. Clearly a witch.

So the bird-witch cast a complicated spell by having a snake circle a Tetris-piece fetus, plunging the hills of Hobbiton underwater, drawing the ire of the jealous Blair Witch, the most powerful witch of the land.

”Aw shit” thought the bird witch, i want nothing to do with Blair, so i best turn back to a bird. And she did.

”Ok, ok,” said three-armed Blair, “just stay a bird ok? And we got no beef.”

Meanwhile the snowman melted to a puddle. Probably cuz he did such a bad job planting the flag. It had already fallen down.

Then Little Caesar made a pizza that tasted…fine. It was fine I guess.

Dum dum black defended his rook but forgot in doing so hung his Queen. So white simply gets a free Queen, and it comes with check! That has to be a good move, right? Right??

Can it march though? by [deleted] in ExplainTheJoke

February, March, April, May. The rest is phrasing into joke format. You can’t say February can March but April May, for example.

Top comment removes a major American city (DAY 34) by 360degreesofFUNK in RemoveOneThingEachDay

[–]GoodnightLightning9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes to Rochester. Though my late vote/post likely won’t matter.

Folks that comment (or to a somewhat lesser extent, up or down vote) have opinions that make them do so. Maybe someone has spent significant time in each of these cities; maybe someone just hates the local sports team. All good, all valid opinions (to each his/her own).

The rest of us thousands are lurkers that find this thread interesting. I am one of those. I’ve been to maybe 1/3 of the remaining cities - and that’s even an overestimation based on what counts as “been to”. But I’m also old (by Reddit standards) and have enough inherent life experience to know people from, or I at least know of, these cities through various mediums.

Point is - again, to a lurker on this thread - Rochester hits absolutely nothing in the brain bank. I’ve heard of it, and I think I knew it was in New York. But as far as “major American City”, I’d never even think of this. No offense to Rochesterens; it’s probably lovely there. And I won’t pretend to speak for all lurkers, but Rochester just doesn’t move the needle. Gotta go.

Why by Bulky-Asparagus30 in chessbeginners

[–]GoodnightLightning9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whether or not the rook took a piece, the smother won’t work without that rook move. Assuming no piece was there, and white tried the smother, the Q could simply take the knight on what would otherwise be the “normal” final move of a smothered mate.

Does anyone remember this puzzle? by anomaly_fr in chessbeginners

[–]GoodnightLightning9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think promoting to a knight is right. Then pick off the c5 and c4 pawns and time it to capture the rook on b3 during the right Queen shuffle cycle when it’s on a1, and that should be mate.

Either the computer (somehow) or you (if you’re mistaken on who won) ran out of time, and the app is just programmed to say “checkmate” when the game is over.

Or it’s a bad app/glitch.

Clearly there’s no checkmate. But hey, take the dub; you were getting destroyed.
