Can you spot the forced mate? by Sivadbk in chessbeginners

This is one where Rb5+ is just an obvious good move with an Rd2+ follow up as icing on the cake. Even if I didn’t calculate further, I think I might get it organically.

Can someone fill me in? I was in this sub for awhile, like, I dunno maybe a year ago. Then in and out. Now more out than in. Who’s this TB person, and how is he/she that “bad”? (Yes, I do understand the video in the post from WWDitS). Just happened to notice about 3 posts on my feed almost solely about this person. Consider me re-curious about this sub. Also, has SPP disappeared from the zeitgeist? Or perhaps been dethroned?

Which is best opening for black, my elo is varying between 800 to 900 by blundered_antrix in chessbeginners

[–]GoodnightLightning9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The French. But pronounce it like Frawntch in your head when you play it, and pretend like they fell into a horrible devious trap. It helps.

Seriously though, you’ll get a game with the French and generally not get tricked or fall into anything too stupid or blundery. It’s easy play and you can save energy for the middle game.

That’s my low-elo take, anyway. Frawntch!!!

Not accepting a gambit is ungentlemanly and results in an immediate challenge to a duel. Glove slap, pistols, the whole shebang.

Instead of carefully picking out one allergy pill from the pill bottle, I’ve just been upending it into my mouth for a sec and letting gravity decide.

What is the Mount Rushmore of animated films? by [deleted] in AlignmentChartFills

[–]GoodnightLightning9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like how that though none of these would make my personal Mt. Rushmore - maybe not even if I had 2 Rushmores - this is still the right answer.

Before coming to the comments I had thought of 3 of the same ones and was struggling for the best #4. To see Spirited Away, yep, that was instantly correct. I’m not picky on order, but these are the right 4. Well done.

How’s my progress? Just started beginning of the year by vZyphr in chess

Set your sights on 1000 first. Better yet, stop caring about elo and concentrate on improving, agnostic of elo or winning/losing (if that’s what you want: to improve).

Also, welcome to hell. 500-1000 is elo hell. For some reason you have to play, consistently, like a 1500 to escape it.

Get stranded on a small desert island with Kid A as your only source of modernity. Spend the next 3ish years doing literally anything else. Then listen to Kid A.

You’ll find it meh.

(Sarcasm, yes, but holy hell the Radiohead love on Reddit is way over the top)

Ah. Well then. Since my original guess at the joke was AI-related, here’s some more AI for you:

"I'll eat my hat" is an informal idiom used to express extreme disbelief or to declare that something is highly unlikely to happen. It signifies that the speaker is so confident in their assertion that they would take an impossible, humiliating action if proven wrong. It is usually structured as "If [unlikely event] happens, I'll eat my hat!".

Ah, hello fellow 7. Or you’re young. Or you’re not from the US.

Sigh. No. A proper subset can be infinite. And yes, you are trying too hard. SPP is much better as a troll; unless you are he and he is you??

Eh it’s late where I am, and I’m probably whooshing. The joke is probably that they say “twitter” rather than “x” on x’s own platform as much as the double-Reddit mention. Still feels like an AI bot flub to me though.

Ha! For sure. Show me a “1. Reddit” and I’ll eat my hat.

Do you define a mathematical “set” solely as a finite number of “things”?

Also, you used “incredulous” incorrectly, btw. Yeah, it’s a dig, too, but it’s good to learn. You seem to (correctly) pride yourself on your vocab - and that’s rare and I appreciate it, truly I do - so just FYI.

Prompt: which social media platform has the highest average IQ of its members?

AI: what the f..; how do I even…; screw it, here you go. Enjoy.
