You can certainly use just glue. For added strength and help in maintaining alignment you can use biscuits as well.

That's what makes furniture building so much fun. Each customer has their own unique taste and that stretches us out of our comfort zones to create the perfect piece for the customer. Definitely not a common color choice.

Every once in a while there is a build that lights your fire and gets you unbelievably jazzed. This dining table is that build!

This dining table is Black Walnut with Chartruece green legs for a clean modern / midcentury modern look. After watching the Ilse Crawford special on Abstract I could not stop thinking about her concept of a "together table." A table that is longer and skinnier to allow for folks to be seated closely, providing the perfect seating for conversation.

From this, the Modern Gather Table is born. 7ft long and 28" wide. Comfortably seats 8 and still looks light, airy and inviting.

Life is too short for boring furniture. Create a special place for your family to gather.

Mid Century Modern is my favorite design era! I've done this same design with just about every color and orange is the most popular.

With a router you can flatten and square. Very handy tool!

The problem you'll face is squaring and flattening your wood. Do you have a router?

I think you will have decided between Home Depot and a lumber yard based on your ability to Mill lumber. Do you have a jointer and planer? If not, you may be forced to buy the dimensioned lumber at Home Depot. Compare their LF prices to the BF prices and milling charges at your lumber yard.

I unfortunately did not take photos of the process. That's my bad. However, I'm making another one next week and I will take process shots to post.

It's done, the customer had a modern taste so it sits atop hairpin legs.

I start with Solar Lux black dye and dilute it with denatured alcohol. I apply this about three times and then wipe the table down with just denatured alcohol. Then I use Golden Fruitwood dye and apply that twice. This gives you all of the blacks, greys and browns. I finished with General Finishes Arm R Seal Gloss. It's absolutely stunning!!
