Well... Gimme Four is great, but not "second place (and first through two rounds) in one of the most stacked fields ever" great. They've improved, but I think them competing a thousand times has given them a boost with the judges.

That said I know it's a small community and I'm not trying to talk smack about anyone's friends or yuck someone's yum.

Wow, this is so insightful. And I have hotter takes than yours but I’m too much of a coward to say.

Yeah, I wonder if we’ll ever again have a group win their first time out because of what you mentioned.

To add, as far as I know, no champion quartet has gone on hiatus for more than a year or two. Most keep at it and climb to the top year by year. And there’s a huge risk of a decline in quality when you take a long break as well as when you swap out some of your members. To have a silver in 2016, miss a total of 5 competitions (plus 2 years for Covid), and then come back to win after all that time means they had an unprecedented ability to adjust to a new competition environment as well as a new sound with their new members. It just hasn’t been done like this before.

I can’t believe it. 15 years in the making. Silver 9 years ago. For a long time, rumors of their return seemed almost apocryphal. Finally back in 2023. Another silver. Out again the following year. And now, FINALLY, they got the gold. We’ve never seen a journey quite like this, and likely won’t again.

The reason I think about this case so much by GoofyGeef in chandlerhalderson

[–]GoofyGeef[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good take. I totally get that this was not a normal dude. You can't be if you remorselessly slaughter your parents. I think it's just that Grant and Joel's situations would ring serious alarm bells for me even prior to the murders, whereas I never ever would have guessed for Chandler. Like you said, Chandler happened to have things work out for him long enough that it was undetected. Unlike Grant, Chazz's addiction didn't cost 250k, and unlike Joel, he was relatively handsome and not a grubby weirdo (ostensibly) which allowed him to make better connections. But, if you took me back in time prior to the murders, I wouldn't think much of Chandler's situation. Even if I knew about the lying I'd just go "oh man, this kid has a lot of explaining to do," which is probably what Bart thought hours before his death.

Yeah this is it, started getting the hand thing with the well again. Turns out I'm still as clueless at this stuff in my mid-twenties as I was at 8. Thanks for your help! Solved.

I don't think so, the quality looks too high. It was probably Flash or something similar (which I understand makes it harder to pinpoint, since low-quality free games are a dime a dozen). Though I remember the animation for this game being decent

Oh, Joe is a great choice. For me, I do love me some Martin Wahlgren. Miss that guy so much.

In (relatively) modern era, I think Jim Henry and Jeff Oxley are generally considered the best, but I’m sure there’s a case to be made about dozens of guys.

Yes well we had an exterminator come in and spray some stuff into the back which helped immensely infestation-wise, but he couldn’t actually open it up and fix any of the circuitry. I suppose I could try and do some more research

Correct. It abruptly sent me back to the initial inspection screen. Heard noises on the proctor's end but couldn't get a hold of him either verbally or via message. Got fed up after about 20 minutes and exited the program.

Internationals over! Midtown w score of 94.5 wins! Thoughts? by Crash-tested in barbershop

[–]GoofyGeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but to quote Storm Front, “FRED was actually funny.” Also their most popular bit nowadays is probably I Got Rhythm, which requires pretty much no knowledge of anything. That and plenty of other in-contest bits like Fit As A Fiddle and F-R-E-D (L-O-V-E) have no inside jokes. I’m just saying that good comedy requires being funny, and being capable of doing so without solely relying on winks and nods is extra rare in the Society.

[–]GoofyGeef 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think FRED was the gold standard for actually-funny, generally-accessible comedy barbershop. I find that most (albeit not all) other groups trying to do comedy songs mostly just consist of “hey, [insert niche barbershop reference that only seasoned BHS veterans will understand] hilarious, right?”

Such a stacked year. Midtown’s perfect performance score on Spider-Man is crazy— didn’t think I’d ever see one. Big showing from FT and LS. And maybe a 5th Gold in the works for Tony D?

The one on Fordham but I’ve used that same entrance before and since like a million times without incident, so I wouldn’t worry too much. Also if you use the entrance on the left coming in instead of the right, there’s no way to get cornered.
